He was born in Canada to Hungarian and Latvian parents. He has lived in the UK for 35 years. They described him as Hungarian, with a barely suppressed sneer.

I am hated by the Daily Mail according to this website and Peter Hitchens once declared by 'Unpleasant', I wear that title proudly coming from him.
