HaleStorm Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Mental woman tried ramming the white house gate...so security agents shot her....her baby was in the back of the car but is unharmed
twin--turbo Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Mental woman tried ramming the white house gate...so security agents shot her....her baby was in the back of the car but is unharmed More or less what I read into it. Disable the car and wait for somone with ROV to turn up to approach the vehicle. Shoot when shot at. Rob
HaleStorm Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I agree twin--turbo, police have dealt with this far to heavy handedly....if i had to guess, I'd say she was a state employee forced into unpaid leave by the government shutdown and was expressing her anger.
Rawns Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I agree twin--turbo, police have dealt with this far to heavy handedly....if i had to guess, I'd say she was a state employee forced into unpaid leave by the government shutdown and was expressing her anger. Saw the video footage on Sky. When she's smashing the barrier, there must have been 8/10 offices around the car with guns drawn. Plus a number of Police cars parked up close. Why not either grab a car and jam her between it and the barrier, or shoot the tyres out?
Rawns Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Footage showed the car at one point surrounded by police but the driver managed to escape, speeding around a roundabout. On a side note, when did the USA start getting roundabouts!?
LeMarchand Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Why not either grab a car and jam her between it and the barrier, or shoot the tyres out? Are you some sort of Commie? That would violate the First Amendment right to shoot the hell out of anything that moves! More seriously, maybe that's the way other security forces would have handled the situation but not in the US. Surely anyone attempting such a stunt should have foreseen the outcome? 1
pcstru Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Surely anyone attempting such a stunt should have foreseen the outcome? That's the problem with mental illness, you don't always see clearly.
LeMarchand Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 That's the problem with mental illness, you don't always see clearly. True, but if their judgement is that impaired they're probably even more of a threat.
HaleStorm Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 True, but if their judgement is that impaired they're probably even more of a threat. But why shoot her? why not, as has been said, disable the vehicle and restrain the woman, rather than shooting her? If there is mental illness involved, she may not even be aware of whats she was doing at all.
CAM Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 We live in the UK where guns are relatively rare. If someone goes crazy with a car they are more likely to deploy stingers and boxing to stop the vehicle and drag the occupant out (and if they suspect a weapon is involved...well, look at the Mark Duggan case). In the US guns are found in all walks of life so they expect the person inside to pull a weapon and open fire. There's some examples on YouTube of such incidents.

If there is mental illness involved, she may not even be aware of whats she was doing at all. Whilst we (or maybe it's just me?) might think it no bad thing to get rid of a bunch of politicians, the Americans are a bit more protective of theirs. If I someone was driving a car towards someone I cared about (or didn't actively dislike) and armed police were about, I'd far rather they used lethal force than took the time to see if the driver had mental health issues.
Rawns Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Where has the "mental health" thing sprung up from?No news sources seem to have referenced that she had mental health?
HaleStorm Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Where has the "mental health" thing sprung up from?No news sources seem to have referenced that she had mental health? I just said "if" i think someone else mentioned mental health.....might be more a mild case of "going postal"
Rawns Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I just said "if" i think someone else mentioned mental health.....might be more a mild case of "going postal" Ahhhh! Chinese forum whispers! I bet it's like you said earlier, an office worker on unpaid leave and it's taken her over the edge.
6Foot2 Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 On a side note, when did the USA start getting roundabouts!? Link: City of Carmel, IN : Roundabouts Carmel has become internationally known for its roundabout network. Since the late 1990’s Camel has been building and replacing signalized intersections with roundabouts. Carmel now has more than 60 roundabouts, more than any other city in the United States... However this is not Washington but Carmel, Indiana.
Arthur Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 @DaveP. You spelt 'Capital' wrong in the title. 1

pcstru Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Where has the "mental health" thing sprung up from?No news sources seem to have referenced that she had mental health? Various sources report she was suffering from post natal depression.
ButterflyMoon Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 If she was suffering post natal depression all I can say is poor soul for it to end up this way. Very sad
