Windows Hyper V 2012

Trying to set up replication between 2 of my Hyper V 2012 hosts but I'm unable to do so.

 

In HyperV Settings this is what I get...

 

 

 

 

What can I do to overcome it? Firewall is disabled. Every service applicable to HyperV is enabled and running.

 

Am I led to believe that replication isn't supported in the free version of HyperV 2012?

From the information available it looks like you are trying to replicate within the same hyper V site. Replication is meant to happen between sites I.e to a backup hyper v server.

Even as domain members I still get the same error shown in image 1.

I can't even try any kind of replication because of the error shown in image 1. I thought I'd try it anyhow and I get the error shown in image 2.

Did you configure the failover target before attempting to configure the VM on the primary?

How do you mean? At the moment they are two servers with locally hosted storage. The first step to enable Replica is to go into HyperV Settings to enable it, as shown in image 1, which I'm unable to do.

Tried it but the problem continues.

Hyper-V will replicate between free and licensed as I do it here.

 

Are they in a domain or workgroup or a mix?

They're in a Workgroup. I have tried it in a domain and I still get the same error. What am I doing wrong?

Can you manage both servers from the console without any errors i.e. add a new server to each or change settings?

 

On hyper-v-server console - option 4 - configure remote management (should be enabled)

Yup, I can manage both servers through the console on my Windows 8 machine.

 

I can create and delete any VMs.

 

That said, could it be down to my NIC settings? Do I need to configure anything with them?

 

I've enabled the firewall rules "Hyper-V Replica HTTP Listener (TCP-In)" and "Hyper-V Replica HTTPS Listener (TCP-In)" on the Hyper-V 2012 boxes. Relevant firewall rules have also been enabled on my Windows 8 machine. Not sure what else I can do.

have you added a local admin thats the same on both PC/Servers? Option 3

Yup, I've also done that. If I hadn't then I wouldn't be able to remotely connect to either of my Hyper-V boxes through the console.

 

Each box has been set up with an identical username and password.

are both servers on the same subnet?

 

What are your network settings?

 

What are your virtual switch settings too.

Both servers are on the same subnet.

 

They're on the IP address range of 192.168.20.1 - 192.168.20.254

 

In my virtual switch settings, I have configured only an External Switch with one NIC that is active in both boxes.

Well, if there is communication between the servers (assuming you can ping one from the other?) and you have tested that the local accounts can access each other (maybe by viewing a share on each box?) i'm running out of ideas.

 

Can you remotely view the disk manager and or event viewer from the opposing box?

I can ping from one host to another. I can remotely access and view the disk management, event viewer et al. I just don't understand why this stupid replication thing does not work, and why it says 'load failed' everytime you launch Hyper-V Settings!!!!

Can you talk me through your steps of setting up the free Hyper V edition? Obviously the condensed version in numbered steps, if you don't mind, that is

 

I just wanna see if I've done anything wrong with my set up.

All things seem to be correct, including RPC etc.

 

You could try reinstalling the roles, including the management role.

I managed to recreate the issue on my vms by removing the folder 'replication' on one of the servers. If you check the path for stored replication harddrives has the folder 'replication' been created already?

No. This is a Hyper-V 2012 Core running on a server. I use Win 8 to manage my VMs through the Hyper-V Server console.

'Cause I can't enable Replication on the server or on any of my VMs, I presume the replication folder would not be created? If this isn't the case, where is the folder located?
