Have you considered setting up so staff can access SIMS once they are connected via VPN (or direct access) using a RDWeb connection. That way the only data that leaves the server is the keystrokes and video.

Is this all set up in a win 8 environment? I.e. Win 8 + hyper V + 2012 VM's. If so I think you may find that this is the problem as I don't think that replication is supported in this configuration.

Did you configure the failover target before attempting to configure the VM on the primary?

From the information available it looks like you are trying to replicate within the same hyper V site. Replication is meant to happen between sites I.e to a backup hyper v server. HTH

NP. Something to bear in mind when multiple users 'share' an account is the potential for overlap. I.e if send and receive is set for a 5 min cycle for both clients, you could have around 10 minutes when the account is not in sync.

Missed that requirement. Adding the email account to the second client is straightforward enough but how you manage the existing emails will depend on local requirements. You can export to pst and then delete from account before allowing client 2 access. Client 1 would then be able to import pst into a secondary account for example. This would maintain separation for confidentiality. Alternatively, you could try moving the required emails into a personal folder and then password protecting these folders.

Hi I would suggest that you implement a simple auto forward rule to the relevant account. Providing you set the rule up correctly (I.e. by date), you can control which mail is forwarded. HTH

I have been using the Surface Pro 128 since release as my primary company laptop. So far I have found no real issues with it. The battery life is acceptable for a mobile device running any of the tech apps I need to work and when on site I can just put it back on life support. The convenience that its size provides over my old x60 is perfect for me and I have been able to work anywhere I choose so far. Despite what you may have read I can use it on my lap without any real problems. Tethered via BT on my phone I am always connected (subject to 3G coverage) and I use a pocket drive to carry all my VM's for testing and development work. As a mobile engineering tool it is powerful enough and has yet to let me down and, as a domestic device it is very slick. I do not have time to play many games, but it has handled the ones that I do play. Only 2 minor niggles are - the stylus is easy to loose track of as it falls off in your bag. I now put it in a separate pocket so that I can find it easily and, if you can't find the stylus, working in photoshop etc can get a little tedious using the trackpad. Easily solved by increasing the zoom or using the wedge mouse.

Hi Rawns. Initially the preview showed expected results but the output showed many duplications which masked the identification of the medical notes issue. Once I removed the field and reran the report the 'inexplicable' duplications disappeared and made it easy to ID the root cause. However, once I added the field back in the spurious duplications did not reoccur?

You are correct Vikpaw, it makes sense that as you can have individual dated entries, you preserve this in the output. However, this causes the problem if you only need a summary of a given record and this field. I have not been able to spend as much time on this as i would have liked today but I have made some progress using excel concatenation. Still work to do but this looks promising.

Thanks for the input Vikpaw. I will certainly attempt your suggestions to see what is output. One other option I can think of (although impracticable?) is to copy/merge the data into a generic Note and then pull from there maintaining one line per student. Not pretty but may save a lot of time until a more elegant solution can be found.

Response from Capita There have been issues with that field - export as excel then save as csv. Doh! Why would I want a manual step in an automated process?

Looking back through the report with fresh eyes and I have found the cause! Picking up the field medical note - if it has more than one entry it is creating a separate record for the same pupil? Now just need work out how to prevent the duplication...

Thanks for responding. Suppress duplicates is selected. Have escalated to SIMS reporting team - ATM it is just a basic listing of all pupils on roll so there should not be any duplicates. In the meantime I am going to create a new report to see if that replicates the issue?

Edit: Should have read This should clear the issue for you and in my case it also prevented the autorun rules from running after every failed sync attempt

Hi Guys, First foray into the world of SIMS Reporting and having a complete head scratch ATM. I created a report in SIMS and when run within SIMS the output is in correct format (csv) without any duplicates. Running the very same report via CommandReporter, the report is run and output is in correct format except that there are now duplicate entries in the data. Sometimes one, two or, three for nearly every entry? Any ideas what is going please? Thanks in advance

I would advocate plan B. A second virtual DC would provide redundancy and enable offline maintenance of the primary without affect service delivery. Providing you have a reasonable backup solution, and assuming RAID implementation, your only real issue would be catastrophic hardware failure which would also be true for plan A.

When you add the SUP role clients are automatically configured with the Correct WSUS URL for scanning on the next policy retrieval cycle. Configuring a WSUS GP will take precedence away from the SUP resulting in a misconfiguration. I have not read the guide which you refer to so I am unable to comment on their process.

WSUS should not be configured if running SUP to handle windows updates. Any GPO will override any SCCM configuration. The client should automatically configure pulling updates from the SUP providing there are no firewall issues preventing this.

Yes of course you can... when you are using your own equipment ) you can do whatever you wish, as do I. Everything on your list started life outside of the OOB kernel and was added in over time by community acceptance and talented developers mainly coding features for personal benefit and or financial gain - Precisely why there are so many flavours! MS products are inherently capable of supporting the same feature sets but unless mainstream corporates want flaming smoke, I doubt very much whether they would consider coding even so much as a full stop.

Finestra Virtual Desktops for Windows have been around for a while now, available from the Guys at CodePlex (hosted by MS) as a free, opensource plugin/add-on... Just an example.

I am also a fan of other OSes too (especially the free ones). However, the issue is not the extent to which it is customisable but the fact that people are unhappy with the OOBE of the desktop environment, so perhaps they should change it as required, which is facilitated by MS providing the ability to do so within the OS.
