Yaso Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Chill guys , I got the solution for this , and it's very simple: 1- Enter the BIOS 2- Go to "Security" section in BIOS 3- You will find (Secure Boot: Enabled) , well go and disable that ! 4- Then go to "Advanced" section in BIOS and enter the "System Configuration" 5- Now as you can see you can change the "Boot Mode" after we disabled the "Secure Boot" 6- So just go and change the "Boot Mode" form (UEFI Boot) to (CSM Boot) 7- That's it =D save the new settings in BIOS and restart with your bootable DVD or Hard Disk Now your laptop will read and boot from any DVD or USB Hard Disk Hope this work with you guys Cheers
Tom Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) If anybody is still trying to get these stupid laptops to PXE boot, we have found the problem and a workaround for it and I have a support case open with Toshiba where they are replicating it which will hopefully lead to a proper fix. Amusingly this is taking a while since our laptops shipped to us with bios version 1.20 which hasn't been released to Toshiba UK support yet! The issue appears to be that the C50 isnt able to use more than one DHCP server for the boot process - so if you have a DHCP server giving out an IP and a seperate WDS server giving out the PXE options (60,66 and 67), it doesnt get the responses from the second server - so fails with the file not found error. If you have WDS on the same server as DHCP it works. You can specify options 66 and 67 on your main DHCP Scope and force it to work - set option 066 to your WDS Server IP address/FQDN and 067 with the following string "\boot\x86\wdsnbp.com". this will work for x32 boot images (win7 or win8) on wds 2008 and 2012. We have deployed win7 x32 onto ours quite happily. This issue is affecting 2 different 'sub-modles' of the C50 which we have - so don't buy any new ones without expecting it. They deploy at normal speeds for me. I am now using the windows 8.0 x32 boot image in WDS 2008/2012, and have option 66 set to the WDS server IP and option 67 set as above. I am putting windows 7.1 x32 images onto them
Sam_Brown Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Just got 10 of these although slightly different model... C50-A-1E2. Will PXE boot fine once I've disabled Secure Boot and UEFI. Will download the boot image and start to load. Shows the Win8 Splash Screen and then shows the SCCM 2012 Wall Paper and "Windows is Starting Up" in a Dialogue Box. Dialogue box disappears and then sites with just the SCCM Wallpaper for about 30 seconds before restarting. Any ideas? Edited March 31, 2014 by Sam_Brown

Try upgrading the BIOS from 1.30 to 1.40 go to the official manufactures website and download the BIOS upgrade, it will flash the BIOS and allow you to hopefully use CSM mode. I tried this and it has imaged one laptop, now need to try and image multiple there may be some sort of file which needs to be added to the root of Remote install and maybe some other folders also there may be some settings which need to be changed. Unfortunately I have seen this happen to other laptops as well, really annoying issue with this model of laptop.Does anyone have any ideas , got half way and it works. Just come across them today, C50-A to be exact and downloaded the appropriate driver package, cross checked against device manger and matching the signature. Inserted to WDS, Injected into Boot Image and all I'm getting is WDSUtil: Cannot contact DHCP. Why WDS does not have an F8 option like SCCM is beyond me as I could sit there and install drivers into the Windows PE live until I find the right one :< EDIT: RESOLVED - Shift + F10 was what I was looking for. Only 1 specific driver out of the whole package works with a x86 boot image so be warned. After using DISM to strip out all the drivers and using the DRVLOAD in the WDS Shift + F10 CMD I managed to find the 1 driver and then load that individual driver back into my BOOT.WIM. 2097 Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 my alienware PC had problems booting to windows 8 from Install basically if i was to reboot ( like during setup) it would not load at all ! , if i shutdown and turn on it was fine . basically to get it working i had to reboot during install , and load the overclock settings on the MB . This would allow me to get into windows 8 after install . I then needed to install the latest intel chipset and Renesas usb 3.0 driver .Then install Intel rapid storage drivers. KDT Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) What, you mean you guys haven't tried using a single CAT5 splitter? No, really, it works. At least it does for our R50-B-12Ps. steewy Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Hi, I had this issue before and here is how I solved it. First make sure you add the network drivers for your laptop to MDT, update the deployment share and replace the PXE boot image on MDS. Once you have done this, you need to disable the UEFI in the BIOS and enable PXE boot. Now here the tricky bit, for some reason I could of not boot onto PXE even if I changed the UEFI and the boot and all that. So open your laptop and start windows 8 and follow this: How To Disable UEFI Secure Boot In Windows 8 & 8.1 You need basically to disable UEFI from Windows 8 Is it working ?

Would not even pick up an IP address from our DHCP server for PXE boot. To resolve, I disabled DHCP on my backup DC. Not ideal, but a very fast workaround. Any word from Toshiba on why this happens?
