I would loved to be able to swear on this forum. Pearson just makes my blood boil. They should not be let anywhere need software

I remember being hounded by the Head when POS wasn't working on the morning of an exam. He wasn't helping my efforts to get things working by following me around the room and asking me repeatedly "Why isn't this working?"

I could easily have sworn loudly that day! Repeatedly!

Does anyone know what the latest version is? We ran an exam on Friday it's the first time since we had PaperCut installed before Christmas and we found the console would crash when trying to print the logins.

Also does the latest versions auto download on the apps share? Or am I totally wrong in thinking that?

Anyone had issues with some of the software crashing on certain questions? I've e-mailed support with the issues we were having but they haven't got back to me yet about any possible cause.

I'll probably chase them up during half term - but has anyone else had any crashes like this? The users were local admin and could write to the hard drive (and the software never works if they're not).

Never known for it to crash during an exam, is it effecting more than one machine?

We've got a couple of exams scheduled next week and I checked this morning to set them up and they are not appearing on the administrative application so I'll be giving them a ring in the morning. All previous orders are showing up but not new ones.

worth noting - we had an issue in Excel with the Page layout options disappearing due to no printer being assigned or installed on the station in use. Caused a couple of questions to be unanswerable - adding a printer, even a fake one cleared that one up

Yeah it was around five or six but on different questions. We had just under forty students take the exam in the same room.

Question - I've been scanning through the thread to look for an easier option:

Where do you install the invigilator software? Has anyone got it working where you install the invigilator software on a server and run it off any whiteboard PC? So that when you connect to a whiteboard through the test player set-up; every PC goes to the server? That way you could run exams in multiple rooms but just from the one whiteboard and user?

What I've done is:

Server software - on a separate PC.

Admin and Invig software - both on teacher PC in ICT classroom.

Emailed exam invigilator logins to Admin and Invig dashboards and ran through with them the steps.

They know to login to Admin first, do stuff, then login to Invig next, and start exam. And yes, run multiple rooms from one teacher PC for one exam.

I can't remember the details now, it's so long ago, but I seem to recall the advice that the invigilator should not be installed on a server, and there should, ideally, be an install per room. I think I was on the phone to support when I got this advice. No more detail than that I am afraid. Sorry.

That's ringing a bell for me. I think I had that advice years ago, as well. *sighs* Oh well. It's never perfect.

I much prefer the WJEC Secure Assess way of doing things. All admin and invigilation is done via a web browser and the client connects to the internet. If something happens mid exam you can move the student to another PC and the exam continues without a fuss. Pearson could learn a thing or two or everything from how WJEC deploy their onscreen exams.

Hi all, i'm having a small issue that's bugging me here with the test player. I just ran a test exam this morning and all seems to be working videos, photos etc.. but when completing the test and pressing 'complete test' I see the upload go to 100% but the it freezes and I get Edi.advance.tdp.client.exe has stopped working. The exam is showing as complete on the admin dashboard and I get upload status succeeded but I would like to try and fix this error just so the users don't panic when the exam has finished. Has anyone come across this and got a potential fix? I'm going to call up this afternoon just to double check that the answers have been received ok.

We had the same issue. Couldn't find a fix but it didn't affect results so we left it as it was.

We ran an exam on Monday and didn't have this issue. As far as am aware we are on the latest version of the software. Client is Windows 10 1607 Edu x64.

In fact it went really smoothly which isn't always the norm.

Yeah I've had to do the same. All I was told is that it's some sort of communication error but no fix was offered. The tests did upload so that's good.

We have a BTEC PE exam coming up next week so I thought I'd test our set up. Oopsie! Logged onto Administrator fine but it wouldn't accept a new teacher I was trying to set up. went onto an Invigilator machine and that wouldn't accept the invigilator's existing credentials. So; uninstalled our old V4 and reinstalled the current V5. Only to find it won't allow the Administrator to log in now. Pearson Tech support is being very helpful but if anyone has the experience they can share that would be appreciated. We are behind hte SWGfL ssl proxy filter.

Did you update the exam centre service on your server first? This then allows the administrator console and I believe the invigilator dashboard to pick up updates when you next run the software. It might be that the Exam centre service is older and the other consoles are newer?

We have an exam scheduled on Wednesday. Wish me luck.

OK. Good luck.

But joking aside, I hope it goes well. I do not look forward to the next time we have to use this.

Thanks Dave.

I think it will go OK. We’ve reimaged the IT PCs over the summer so I’ll need to re-point the software back at the invigilator PC so am slightly wary.

I return you luck for when you’ve got an exam scheduled [emoji106]
