mattx Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Game. Waited a week so the hoo haa was over regarding GTA 5 - popped into a store today to purchase game for PS3. No copies. Posters and ads all over the place but no stock of the most anticipated game of 2013 yet they have no stock. This firm deserves to go bust.
Stark Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 its been that way since the whole "pre-order" stuff started with them. These days your better off going to a supermarket for these games I believe.
mattx Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 I just find it incredible that a shop that is called GAME, that mainly sells GAMES and who has adverts and promotions on GTA 5 plastered all over it's walls and windows don't actually have the game in stock !! The release date has been known for months, the build up has been going on for months, its in the press, its on the telly, everyone knows about it - well apart from the shop !! When told they >>may<< have some in stock tomorrow lunchtime I said not to worry and I will take my custom elsewhere.
Nixon77 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I think it might be something to do with the suppliers, Game can only order so many copies in case it goes bust.
rich_tech Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 a cynical part of me thinks these companies want it to be a little scarce, if its "sold out" and cant be gotten anywhere, it drives the press to keep talking about it being unavailable, game are woeful though, especially when it comes to their wanting you to pre-order everything to guaranteee availability, awful way to go about business by not catering to casual market of people walking in off the street.
unixman_again Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Indeed. Back in the late 1980s I worked for a place which sold Amstrads, and we had orders on our books for CPCs for months. Sometimes a big truck would arrive full of CPCs and we would all go out to help unload, thinking they where all for us. The driver would say "Here's your seven" and off he would go to the next dealer. We went broke too. I wonder if I can claim loss of earnings from Lord Sugar?
tmcd35 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Er, something tells me the success of this game took even Rockstar by surprise. $1Billion sold in three days, fastest selling game of all time. And you're complaining about a high street store being sold out? They still have copies in the PSN store (£49.99 - ouch!)
ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 In this case preordering is what its all about. It's best to do that with any big game nowadays. That way you get the best chance of getting your copy early on. As @tmcd35 says though, GTAv has broken every record for a launch of a game, it's literally the biggest thing in ages and has taken the whole industry a little by suprise. So it's to be expected that there will be a shortage of copies. All the Major supermarkets here in Preston have been sold out for days too.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 On a side note however, Gamestation was sacrificed in order to keep Game afloat and that annoys me as Gamestation was a brilliant brand and I was more than happy to spend my money with them. 1
Theblacksheep Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Most places have sold out. Even supermarkets. Pre-order yo. As @tmcd35 said you can get it on PSN. You can buy £50 of instant PSN vouchers for under £42 from shopto.
