Interesting read I felt, I turned off my work emails on the phone a good while back, same in every job I think, some people live to work, some work to live, some people do work out of hours here, myself if its an emergency or an urgent job it will get dealt with, anything else can be dealt with in a working day, the worst thing for me though I was finding is that I felt compelled to reply on receiving anything that came under me if I received it, now I have the dreaded work/life balance sorted better and think I am better off for it. I cant see this being workable though the article or being put into practice though in UK, more of a talking point I think.

Hyper-V on 8.1 here, have used Virtbox on linux though without issue.

If its just viewing you want and no interaction at all, then Lanschool do a "Lite" version of their software, which basically just views the screens of every PC its installed, its good for libraries and IT rooms where there is a dedicated staff machine.

I use Bitdefender Free Edition here nowadays after ditching avast a while back. Kaspersky we use in work having just upgraded to v10 and I have used it before on my home machine and its very decent. Avoid Norton/Mcafee or Symantec are the main rules I have when it comes to AV, ive been paid enough times to remove that junk from peoples computers, especially when they just bought a new PC from PCWorld/Tesco.

I no longer need an alarm clock as the boy wakes us here at 5:50am most mornings like clockwork, what I would say, is always have a decent breakfast, I was always one for skipping it entirely, but now I see how much of a difference it can make to your day, I knock away some probiotic yoghurt and muesli every morning before work and it keeps me going until lunchtime here and beyond if its particularly busy.

I would not bother with a cheap charging cable ever, especially after all the programs about people getting electrocuted or phones blowing up on them or catching fire, its too great a risk for saving a few quid on the device, with these devices being already prone to overheating that is (I had an ipod photo years back that was like a hot brick when using it until it blew and Apple changed it for a brand new one), now I am finding the same issue with my iPhone though on the standard cable any hard long use of the phone and it starts going red hot, so I think its on its last legs now.

I don't think they will be better off for it myself if that is how they go with their referendum and get their independence from the union. I will say also I am not against anyone wanting to leave it if that's the genuine will of the majority of a nations people (I personally don't think that a vote where you have a turnout of 20+% of a population is any sort of majority to win anything really and with the way voting has gone, that needs addressing a lot more I think than anything else when it comes to political will of the people, if you case a vote at the moment, its very little in the way of difference in government that is going to happen, but thats for another thread I think), I feel that the existing union has existed and served us all OK for a long time now too and I am saying that as a Welshman here. I do not fully get what seems to me to be the need to cast aside that union for what does seem at times like a bit of a half-baked concept that's trying to be pushed through urgently, especially as it could have quite damaging implications for a county and its people, there is nothing wrong with them delaying here and ironing out all of this stuff to give everyone a better idea of how it would go if Scotland does decide to go it alone, especially if as I think "if its going to happen it will happen" no matter if you agree or disagree with it. I tend to think also pretty much what has previously been said, at it seems now, its not going to be a clean break and I don't think they can really cherry pick and choose what revenues to take if they do vote that way, especially so I believe as no doubt there would be existing contracts in place for a lot of things that are still central government based at this time and there is also a lot of undecided stuff like currency/military(NATO too)/Health Services which need a lot more discussion and debate on before making any decisions I think as I do not wholly understand a lot of the politicking about some of these issues, but it seems that the SNP want to rush through this debate to a vote while they have drummed up a bit of interest, which I think can only be a bit harmful for what their trying to achieve in the long run, though we all know that a vote can go either way when it hits the ballots. Spain are bound to oppose any split though, based on what has been going on in the Basque movement with them over the years, thats a given. I think overall I find myself just sitting back waiting to see what will unfold with this issue, its an interesting time for our countries tied histories here overall I think.

have you tried raising it with altman or searching their knowledge base ? I sorted out a problem I was seeing on my network a while back by looking on there. HP isnt using the universal print driver is it ? I know from this that, it sometimes causes problems - salesforce.com

Brilliant stuff I discovered on iTunes yesterday. Apple do maths like their tax returns it seems, full of errors and anomalies, perhaps the films are based in Ireland

Apple seem to be in the doldrums a bit product wise lately, their established to their lines now and it doesnt seem to be as awe-inducing as when they first landed, still make "quality" products, their engineering is nice clean and stylish too, but pricing is too high and always has been. That being said I too won't be sorry to see the end of Blackberry, they have been like a "Dead Man Walking" for a few years now products wise I think

Aye I know, just rl means now that I can only manage 1 hour a week outside of work on my home machine to have time to do these things :-)

I have been running primarily ubuntu/mint and fedora the last couple of years, I have to dual boot for things like itunes as the hassle is too much to get that stuff running for me through WINE, serves me right for buying an iPhone there, enjoying being different too when it comes to my machine.
