Oaktech Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I need to keep the following alive for around 5 minutes: HP5412zl with dual 875w PSU HPDL385 Gen8, with dual 750w PSU American dynamics CCTV server with a 375w PSU BT Voip system at 50w. The system can be 2-4u max and needs to be rack mounted. This is my baseline system... BT Business Direct - Liebert LIEBERT PSI XR 3000VA 2700W 230V RACK/TOWER UPS (PS3000RT3-230XR) This is £948 and is bang on 5 minutes endurance But APC reckon this... Buy APC Smart-UPS X 3000VA Rack/Tower LCD 200-240V - Technical Specifications and Information | APC This is £1200 and 10 minutes endurance. Your thoughts?
MatthewL Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I have used APC found them ok, before I left my last job I had a Borri generator installed with their UPS no complaints so far, Eaton are the others I would look at too.
Oaktech Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 I used to like Eaton, but they've re-jigged their range recently and now ethernet connectivity is a pay-for option at the price bracket (sub £2k) i'm looking at
glennda Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Borri UPS's are wicked. I wouldn't touch APC with a barge pole, too many failures for my liking.
Marshall_IT Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Apc are expensive one the batterys start to fail. Dell use a rebranded Eaton product. If your looking for compatibility though, you cannot beat Apc. Not sure the soft shut compatibility of other ups with the equipment you've listed.

And they also tend to just generally fail - and there PDU's set fire to themselves!
Marshall_IT Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 And they also tend to just generally fail - and there PDU's set fire to themselves! All that's just what you want to put in your server room! I must say I've never experienced that, and I never do!
MatthewL Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Have to recommend Borri, if it wasn't for this place I would of never found them, from what involvement I had with them it was excellent, shame I never managed to see the install happen but have been back and seen it all in situ, quite happy with it and impressed, could power our whole building for 2-3 days with the capacity we had, only wanted it for the server suite but it was easier to cable it to do the whole building apparently!!
m25man Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Our APC 3000 Extended runtime keeps our 3 node HP Cluster, two stand alone servers and Readnynas 4200 SAN running for 1 hr and 20 mins The management card runs the network shutdown software and shuts the whole lot down with around 15 mins to go. Never had a problem with it.
smalls001 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 try these 50% OFF Selected Liebert UPS | Insight UK LIEBERT PSI 3000VA 2700W has got 50% off so is £450 ish
Mr_Jiminy Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Speaking from experience, Schneider Electric APC can be dreadful when it comes to customer service... I recently had an arguement with them in regards to a brand new 700 series unit, which they claimed was out of warranty. After a rather fraught telephone call, they eventually concluded it was a processsing issue at their end. IMO the web based setup is a chore, plus it doesn't feel as tactile as the old software driven menu system. Where do people purchase the borri devies from?
glennda Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Where do people purchase the borri devies from? [/b] Contact borri directly and they will direct you to a Supplier or deal with you direct depending on the size on the unit. 1

john Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Had Borri UPS's and they are good, we did have some issues which took some poking to get resolved but once the broken link in comms was resolved things improved
