Do you charge students to print?

Do any of you charge students to print either B/W or Colour in School? Or is all student printing free of charge?

 

We are looking at charging

 

We have Cashless Catering with Squid payments system but it doesnt look like Squid tie in with any Print Management Software.

We give our students a set amount of printer credit at the beginning of the year (£8 I think). Once they use that, they have to buy vouchers from the shop here and apply them to the account. For the subjects which require a larger amount of printing (BTEC subjects and the like), we issue the course tutors with some vouchers which the students then try and beg from them.

We give them a virtual amount each week, top ups have to be requested via SLT, so it's very infrequent.

Ours are given a set amount per term,if they need more the request has to come through a teacher. They're not actually charged anything in reality though, except when SLT etc catch someone printing rubbish/unnecessary large amounts of colour, in which case they're charged on a set amount per sheet.

We want to... We just need the management software to see all printed docs...

You have to be so careful on this one. You don't want your school in the local rag because the poorest students can't afford to print their coursework. Most schools get round this by giving a print allocation for a term or academic year and allow students to buy topups.

Not at the moment, but we did think of hooking up the new rowing machines to the print credit system - the more you row, the more you can print...

We give our students a tiny £1 and then a further £2 if they complete an enrolment quiz. We're a 6th form though and in the prospectus it is advertised that to do e.g Photography you'll be expected to spend £20 in print credit - in the same way Maths you're expected to spend £20 on books
