Internet Explorer 9 doing something a little crazy....

Hi all,

 

Having a nightmare with this one, currently, when opening Internet Explorer and going to Google and searching for anything it will continuously open new IE windows, constantly, it wont stop opening windows....

 

At first it was noticed on a laptop, now it appears to be site wide.... I really cant see why its happening, Mcafee finds no viruses and I have also run various other Anti Virus programs to try find something but it doesn't find anything.

 

Anyone else experienced this issue? I really cant see why its happening and I am a little worried there may be something running rampant on my network....

Have you tried resetting IE to factor defaults?

I'd make sure IE9 is fully patched and unless you're running Vista, install IE10.

 

You could also try disabling all add-ons, then running IE.

are you behind a proxy/firewall something like smoothwall if so it can send odd data to your computer i have had issues where smooth wall will just cut off downloads anything bigger than a GB

Interested to see you are recommending IE10 @Michael I thought IE10 was best avoided on Networks currently because Group Policy hasn't been matched to it?

I figured out what was causing it after a long head scratching session,

 

Turns out it was my countys internet, phoned around other schools and they were experiencing the same issue.

 

Turns out it was Google not white listing our county addresses which is odd, its all sorted noe anyway,

The main issue is deploying proxy settings, however you can do this via GPP on 2008 R2.

 

IE10 is very robust and is more standards compliant than IE9. I see little or no reason not to deploy it via WSUS or as part of an image.

Glad you got it sorted. Does this mean you had the tab issue because google was the homepage? Or were all homepages affected?
