IE10 Removal woes

Good afternoon all,

 

I'm looking for some suggestions as we've run flat out of ideas and the issues is now becoming a vendetta.

 

Over the summer we re-imaged the majority of the site with IE10 included on the classroom machines, however, some of the site remained with IE9 and this has caused a few issues with regards to scripting becoming disabled on staff roaming profiles. Currently, our solution is either a full profile reset or a reset of IE but it does seem to be recurring.

 

It was decided that we should roll back from IE10 to IE9, and while we are able to successfully remove the update and switch back it has left an annoyance for the student mandatory profiles, every time they log on the 'Personalized Settings' run and are halted by a lack of access to the command prompt. While this doesn't stop the students from logging on successfully, it is driving me up the wall trying to figure out why it is happening, we've tried recreating the mandatory profile, but that still retains the issue, i've tried replacing the default user profile with a healthy one but no luck there either.

 

Short of recreating the image and re-imaging the whole site, has anyone any ideas as to what may be causing the behaviour? Google searches seem to be fruitless as the only references I can find to this behaviour are from IE4 or 5.

 

Any input will be gratefully received.

This discussion is a number of years old and is no doubt out of date now. There's little/no reason not to be using IE10 or IE11 these days. As for the Personalised Settings, this can easily be supressed using Group Policy. Windows 10 includes IE11 as standard and works without any significant issues. As for websites which are still problematic, Google Chrome is also a good alternative and can also be controlled using Group Policy.

Wow, that is a bit of a bump, and i'm struggling to remember quite what we did at the time to resolve it.

 

I'm pretty sure a clean mandatory profile for the students was the eventual solution, but where that was built i'm not sure, as we're going back a couple of years it's hard to say. We've now got IE11 and Chrome on all of our workstations, with only a few older staff laptops having not been updated.

Just to be clear, is it the scripting error for staff that's causing an issue? Or the removal of IE10 causing a problem for mandatory profiles?

It was the personalised settings issue. But I think I've found the solution. I do enjoy a throwback!

Just a heads up to the person asking about IE9/10. Neither of those will be supported on Windows 7 or 8.1 after Jan 12th 2016.

 

"After January 12, 2016, only the most recent version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates. "

 

I would recommend using IE11 with Enterprise Mode (configured via GPO) for any sites that don't play well with a modern browser.

 

We have already started deploying Windows 10 in select areas with wider rollout planned for next year.
