Anybody have any views on the new version? Have been using android for ages but after using an ipad almost daily for work im being more and more tempted to complete the set with the iphone when contract renewal date comes around

I like how iOS 7 looks, but after using a Nexus 4, the iPhone's screen just seems far too narrow for some reason.

I can hear the noise of a few million dribbling imbeciles. I'm not sure what the onomatopoeia is for that, but it's in the air.

That's the first time in my entire life I've ever seen that word used in an actual sentence! :D .... and yes that excited me far more than a piddley iphone release :p

EDIT: one thing i am interested in though is the release of IOS7...been holding off setting up our trolley of iPads because of its impending release.

Hope IOS7 has improved from it's bloody awful beta look. Will slap it on an iPad when I get a chance.

The whole thing so far has gotten a very "Meh" response; nothing really new, they're pushing the 64bit thing a little too far (it's not new, it's not the first etc, contrary to what many fanbois believe) if it's even necessary, but I can't really judge that. It's more of the same, it'll sell like hotcakes despite it's "WHUT?" price. And people will happily spend beyond their means to have the "latest and greatest."

And yeah, it's a lovely word isn't it? :D Not used nearly often enough! It rolls off the tongue in speech :D

No idea. ARM were touting theirs in 2011 and had workable devices mid 2012. Dunno (and don't care) if any made it into devices. Wouldn't surprise me if various knockoff jobs from China have been for years.

There has been 64bit arch processors I remember from circa 2007/8 but buggered if I can find any info on them. Nokia were sniffing around them around the time of the n95 I think.

IOS 7 looks like it will have some useful improvements but I'm still struggling to find a reason to upgrade my iphone 4S (unless Apple nerf the performance of it with the new OS upgrade!)

I think Apple is aiming way too high price-wise with the 5c. Especially when Google are poised to bring out their new Nexus 5 for nearly half the price! IMO they really need something closer to the £300 mark to tempt people away from the mid-range Android smartphones. £470 is silly money for last years iPhone in a garish plastic case!

It would be crazy not to just stump up another £80 and buy the 5S instead

why not with the 3rd gen iPad?

Perhaps it's due to the WiFi hardware not supporting both ad-hoc and managed networks simultaneously (like it was with the OS X version of AirDrop). Either that, or Apple want you to buy another iPad. :)

Now wouldnt that be a business plan :D

Airdrop is on the iPad mini

The iPad mini was released ~7 months after the iPad 3 and contains the same WiFi chip as the iPhone 5 (a Murata 339S0171).

Would that mean you would have to pay more or re buy apps to get the 64 bit versions or just continue running the 32 bit versions ??

Unlikely since that would really confuse people. iOS 7 can still run 32-bit apps.

In regards to 64bit processing on phones, Samsung Galaxy 2, Note, Galaxy 3, Note 2 and Galaxy 4 can all run 64bit OS (google developer forums have people building them with varying degrees of success). So its been done on the droid for a while, but Nokia were darting around it for a long time, even when they were doing the NGage it was on the cards then, at a basic form, but couldn't justify it, so kept developing and did for a while.

In regards to re-buying apps, they are asking devs of larger (and more popular apps) to create 64bit native apps to force people to upgrade - there is the business plan!

As for price, its mental what they're asking, but already O2 in Luton have sold out on pre-orders of both 5C and 5S...ridiculous!

lol @ the price of the 5C - what is the point of it at that price? There is barely any difference between it and the 5S...this thing was supposed to come with a £3-400 price tag.

Will be buying a secondhand 5 for sub £300 as soon as everyone rushes to sell theirs to get a 5S

So:

  • No NFC
  • No improved camera
  • No bigger storage
  • 5C is more expensive than 4S and has plastic back
  • Fingerprint reader that 3rd parties are barred from using

How innovative...

It'll still be a hit though... *le sigh*
