Urgent Help needed with CC4 and Lenovo M72 - not picking up keyboard for pxe

Hi

 

We are having an issue where we have 82 lenovo m72e tiny desktops and when trying to pxe boot them to the CC4 network it lets us hit F12 to load PXE boot but then the keyboard and mouse loose connection so we cannot enter our login credentials to select the build options.

 

Anyone know what could be causing this?

 

There is no PS2 port on them and have tried different keyboards.

Any settings in the BIOS ie - legacy USB devices enabled etc?

we had this with some novatech machines and we ended up just trying out about 20 different keyboards until one worked and then just walking round with that!

We have updated the bios and tried disabling legacy USB support but still no luck.

The keyboard seems to loose connection after a certain USB driver is installed at the start of the CC4 build process "cougsmb.inf".

 

Anyone know how to remove this driver from the build disk?

Is it a USB 3 issue?

(i.e. is the keyboard plugged into a USB 3 port and the USB 3 drivers haven't been loaded by Windows yet)

 

 

Also what version of the winpe environment is that?

It's using pe vista. have tried adding extra usb drivers for usb 3 to the build disk but the M72 only has USB 2 with it.

Who did you buy them from?

If not already done so maybe worth checking that the BIOS is up to date ( either burn off a disc iso from the Lenovo website for the model of machine you have ) which you should be able to get from the relevant downloads page for your model of machine from the Lenovo download section.

 

Or you can download and install System Updater for the relevant version of windows and get it to check for updates that way ( if there are any BIOS updates it should pick it up underneath the last tab on the system updater software )

 

As above once you have checked it is up to date then check any / all USB settings to ensure it stays powered on, enabled etc

Solved it. For some reason I had to change the hdd from ahci to IDE and all working ok. Thanks.

Off topic. Fit SSDs. Honestly!

We're not on CC4 but we've just put some SSD's in some basic model M72es (g630 pentiums) and cold power off to waiting at win 7 logon prompt, including all the relevant GPOs etc - 13 seconds flat.

Not sure how that solves it. What OS are you putting onto the machines. If win 7 then it should have the ahci drivers / intel matrix mass storage drivers included. If not then these need including into the image to support and take advantage of ahci which does help a bit ( at least with NCQ being the main benefit )

Would be good to know if ncq only works with ahci enabled or if this does not make any difference
