synaesthesia Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Anyone heard about where this is? Due for release 14th, then delayed until 16th... and no sign?
John_Howarth Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I've not heard anything yet, although the night is still young! I needed to migrate SOLUS 3 to a new server today so I could have done with it. Hey ho.
synaesthesia Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Aye, was rather hoping to be able to get it on a testbed on the 14th but clearly wasn't to be. Now there's another exams day looming, another day I don't really want to be touching Sims!
PhilNeal Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 With the awful problems we've had this week with our servers we are going to wait until after the GCSE results before introducing another variable. 1
John_Howarth Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Thanks for the update, Phil. I understand your position and decision to delay the release. The reason we're keen on getting our hands on 3.6 is the number of server migrations taking place during the holidays. We're having to leave old servers in place and running as we can't yet migrate SOLUS 3, which means extra work later on. If you need any help with pre-release testing, you need only ask. Please pass on our thanks to those tasked with getting SOLUS 3 back up and running after the server failures; it can't have been an easy week.
PhilNeal Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 John thanks for the offer. It's all ready to roll out but unfortunately I don't think we can parallel run.
synaesthesia Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Thought that would be the case, doesn't make things much easier :/ Certainly hope it's here before summer 2. Both will now, joyfully, have to wait until the new term
jbutlin Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 sorry folks - i have a quick question about SQL versions... so - SIMS and FMS need to run on SQL 2012 by the summer next year, so I've heard - but what about Solus 3? Does that need to run on a seperate 2008 instance?
localzuk Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 At the moment, SOLUS 3 doesn't run on SQL 2012. However, I don't know how much success people have had getting SOLUS to work via a different instance so far. I'd suggest sticking with 2008 R2 for now. And switch to 2012 in the future. 1
jbutlin Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 OK, thanks a lot for the reply - do you need Solus to run on a seperate instance, or can it run on the same one as SIMS and FMS? Sorry for all the questions.
synaesthesia Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 I'd say hold fire for the 23rd August for Solus 3.6 but I'm sure there'll be another reason for it to be held back. 1
jbutlin Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I am sure you're right! Fair enough - thanks a lot for the advice.
synaesthesia Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 23rd, release day (again). 9:30 and all's quiet. Come on, Capita - could do with actually getting this done!
synaesthesia Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Ok, so the release notes have just come up (although they're dated yesterday? Nice try!) They seem to read as if you must install Solus 3.5 beforehand. Would anyone from Capita like to furnish us with the how-to on that, being on Server 2012? Any chance of the ISOs today?
jbutlin Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 there certainly isn't much in the release notes about installing it from scratch, or for that matter migrating an existing Solus 3 database from SQL 2008 to 2012...
Cache Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 They seem to read as if you must install Solus 3.5 beforehand. I don't read it that way: This release can be installed or used as an upgrade. When upgrading an existing installation, the SOLUS3 April 2013 release (version 3.5) or SOLUS3 April 2012 release (version 3.4.118) must already be installed. I don't particularly understand all the migration of SIMS and other database targets in the Installation Guide, but then I'm not really back into Solus3 fuzzy logic at the moment... The Solus3 database and Agent migration seems easy enough though (famous last words!)
synaesthesia Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Ah, must have skipped over that Waiting for Capita to get back to me with a link, hopefully
jbutlin Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 OK, just got to section 6 of the installation guide- so basically in order to migrate it to SQL 2012 you have to reinstall it! Did read that correctly?
Cache Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 OK, just got to section 6 of the installation guide- so basically in order to migrate it to SQL 2012 you have to reinstall it! Did read that correctly? Pretty much as I read it, but atleast then you don't have to go and remove/reinstall all of the agents. Actually that has raised another fairly big point which I've maybe skipped over - what happens with the Solus3 share, presumably that needs to be moved and recreated...
synaesthesia Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Yay, file is available now on supportnet. Only half way through the day
