Problem I have on exchange.

 

I have a user mailbox, with 10 different e-mail addresses applied to it. Enquires, Info, Sales, Careers, etc.

 

When this user goes on holiday, I want these different email addresses to go to different people. What would be the best way to do this? I don't want to create 10 new full e-mail boxes as that would require 10 CALS. Previously I have just removed the email address from the mailbox and added to a different mail box and when back from holiday added back. But this seems like a long winded route.

 

Any ideas?

does that not simply forward all mail on to one other user?

Yep, but he didn't say that the user had a personal email address.

 

He could write a powershell script that would make reassigning the addresses easy.

That's the info given.

 

Not sure if my idea of hub transport rules would work, but it would be my first port of call.

 

Alternativly, make all the addresses distro groups and add the users in and out as necessary. Which is probably the better way to do it.

Its a user mailbox (as appose to a room mailbox or system mailbox) and he wants "I want these different email addresses to go to different people". So the forwarding will work.

But he wants each mail address currently associated to one mailbox to forward to a different user for each address, using forwarding will forward all mail to one user. Or at least that is what I understand and what is infered in the link you gave.

2 options, create a public folders and associate the addresses to that or create a distribution list with these addresses attached and then add/remove people as necessary.

Why not create one shared mailbox for all those addresses and then give as many members of staff access to that shared mailbox as needed??

Must admit that is what I would personally do, and did do so the generic ones were seperate mailboxes and as soon as the person looking at then normally was ill etc.. we could just assign access to whoever was covering = job done
