To be fair to the Daily Mail readership from skimming the comments discussion it's very clear that NOBODY is actually in favour of what's being suggested. In all likelyhood I think the Conservatives will back down fairly quickly when the realise how the electorate are going to react to their suggestion of censoring the Internet.

 

It'll be interesting to see how the other parties react to the proposal though?

Here's another interesting angle (I can't find an article on it yet but the details are all there):

TalkTalk have developed an ISP level porn filter.

Their CEO, "Dido Harding," was at Uni with David Cameron (and is also a big Tory donor).

As we all now know, Cameron is planning to force all ISPs to enforce filtering.

 

So, what's a bet he pushes the ISPs to use the technology developed by TalkTalk, thus netting his classmate millions? Could it be this is all just another Tory knees up? (Before I get called out for "Tory bashing" let me reiterate - I distrust all political parties equally!)

what about malware? I suspect it would be fairly easy to write malware that basically said cough up £300 or it will download every indecent image it can find including ones that sare known blocked to ping the government filter so that the boys in blue come round

Good job OFSTED aren't rating the Government as they probably wouldn't get an "Outstanding" with this policy:

I'm not surprised at all, but it'll certainly be interesting to see how this plays out. If they do enforce ISP filtering as planned, they could well specify the system to be used if it's going to be a government controlled blacklist. If that happens and they do push TalkTalk's system, I'll be very interested to see if this relationship is put under scrutiny by the press.

 

Lots of ifs buts and maybes, but interesting nonetheless.

They didn't develop it, though AFAIK they paid for it to be developed... (not by us before you ask!!!)

OK that's fair enough, but it's my understanding that it's still their intellectual property (i.e. they have the power to resell it) - do you know if that's the case or are they simply a licensee?
