I'll have 20 MacBooks all clean and new come the beginning of September. So I'm a little reluctant to hand them over to the kids as they will only clutter the desktops, move all my Icons and change all my settings.

So my question is how do I stop them, I can't find any magic setting within preferences that will take care of this for me.

Can anyone help??

A Mac server with Workgroup Manger is what you want - it allows you to centrally manage and lock down your Macs. It's not expensive either if you stick the server app on a Mac Mini or an older compatible Mac.

I believe you can run OS X (Server) on ESXi 5.1 now as well.

That's fine as long as ESXi is installed on Apple hardware.

Your physical system must be an Apple-labeled computer to install or run OS X 10.8 in a virtual machine. (Source)
