Yes, I have a customer using Backup Assist though it is only backing up file services (the heavy lifting is done in Veeam). It's very simple and intuitive but doesn't have the same feel as a fully featured Backup Exec though that isn't a bad thing for what we're using it for.

Seems to work fine, and makes me want to rant less than Backup Exec.

To be fair a lot of BE we just don't use, so I'm reluctant to pay for the bells and whistles we won't be touching. I just want something that's reliable, should we ever need it, and the pricing for BackupAssist is quite good.

What are the alternatives to Symantec Backup Exec?

Assuming you are backing up a bunch of virtual machine images, a cloud-backed file server and iSCSI storage volume.

In case you are virtualized - you can go Veeam B&R for sure.

From my point any altenative to Backup Exec is good as it is not Backup Exce

Used to use Acronis, was good when it was working but when it went wrong it *went wrong* and you were in a fiery pit of hell with Acronis support staff poking you with pointy sticks.

Ditched it for Veeam and now I'm in heaven.
