Hello all,

 

I hope someone can help with this!

 

Plugging in a handset from the wall using RJ11 cable, works as intended.

 

Plugging in a fax machine from the wall using the same RJ11 cable also works.

 

When plugging in the fax machine from the wall, then using RJ11 to RJ11 to the handset (from the fax machine) I get a lot of noise down the phone.

 

I've come to two conclusions - either the fax machine isn't designed to work with Centrex fully or the wiring inside the RJ11 to RJ11 cable is patched differently than say a standard BT wire.

 

Can anyone confirm what I need to buy to get this working? Many thanks!

I'd say the wiring between fax and handset may not be standard straight through perhaps

The fax machine may have had a specific adapter / handset to go with it I know all the ones I've owned have either had an RJ11 to normal BT Plug or a specific handset with it.

The fax just has a line in and phone out RJ11 connections on the back, so it is designed to loop through. I do agree it's most likely a wiring/patch issue, but searching the web reveals little apart from BT RJ11 to RJ11 which aren't going to work.
