[ipad] Apps that don't play with AppleTV or Airserver

Ok -next problem with IPads

 

Got Apple TV in one school on a couple of classrooms - I ran up the Morfo app and the mirroring to the AppleTV dropped out - is there a generic fix for this or do some apps not allow themselves to be mirrored

 

At another school, a teacher using Airserver said the same thing - some things work - some don't

 

What's the deal with mirroring?

Not familiar with that particular app, but some apps have their own built-in mirroring functionality (eg: TouchViz detects mirroring in place and flips it to work as a separate second monitor showing the output, with control surface remaining on the iPad). Most that have this functionality will immediately kick out of mirroring when run. Other apps have mirroring disabled (Sky Sports app for instance) and do not allow output to an AppleTV intentionally (some limit the ability to the paid version of the app only).

Depends on generation of iPad, speed of wireless, what way the wind is blowing!

 

With Morfo I just export the video and stream that.

Oh well - yet another avenue of pleasure denied to me using IPads

 

I suppose I'll need to compose a list of what will work and what won't

 

Funny how all the people saying how great AppleTV is failed to mention this "little" issue

To be fair it is a little issue. It's only a small minority of apps that do it, and the issue is with the app not the iPad, so technically that's not enough research done on that particular app. I can spool off countless PC apps that when you run them cause issues with other apps / functionality, so it's not like iPads are unique in this.

So isn't the issue there a lack of planning? We test PC apps before putting them into use in classrooms etc, and there are plenty out there that break in our environments. Why do you expect mobile apps to be any different / more reliable to warrant them being put into use without prior testing that they do what you want them to?

 

Can you give me a list of EVERY piece of PC software that doesn't work in an edu environment? No. Nor can anyone give you a comprehensive list of apps that will work either...

 

Don't treat mobile devices and their apps any differently to PC apps - apply the same procedures, and thus avoiding you looking a twonk in front of a hall full of people. *shrug*
