MatthewL Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 In the space of 2 weeks I have had 2 different machines totally unrelated to each other both lock up once loaded into Vista from friends who I do bits and bobs for. I know they should be upgrading to something else but this is not an option, till yesterday this laptop was fine, today boot it up can't even get task manager up, safe mode is fine, nothing sticks out to me, just off 2 different machines, any one else experience any issues?

MatthewL Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 LMAO Thing was this laptop was fine this time yesterday then end user come to it last night and it was just not loading.

Scheduled a chkdsk and auto fix and let it reboot to do it, its now stuck on stage 4 of 5 at 17% on verifying file data. 239 of 292080 files processed. No activity what so ever, is the drive gone do you think?
plexer Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Doesn't sound healthy, can you pe boot any apps specifically the hard drive manufacturer supplied ones to qualify the drive? Ben
MatthewL Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 Just taken the drive out and run the Seagate tools, appears the drive is at fault. Spoke to customer and gave them the price for a new drive & time to try and get an image onto new one and the said is it worth scrapping the laptop and getting a desktop as its only used to check emails in the study so with its age and that I am quoting for a new PC. Is there anywhere that does PC and monitor as a package as its all sold separately now and its a pain in the back side!

MatthewL Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 Not cheap, can get a machine and monitor separately from Overclockers cheaper. Going to pop by Tesco and see what they have, the other option is a Misco refurb, some good machines there for what is needed and they come with an OS and can get monitors for £40 refurb so going to offer the 2 options. Normally its easier as its just swap the box out but needing a monitor it can add £80 for a brand new one if buying all new, soon adds up.
