I am more worried about Gendry at the moment. Mainly because they have diverged his storyline in the show away from the books.. So he is currently the only one whose fate I don't currently know.

 

This, it's been quite a while since i've read book 3 and i thought i was not remembering what happened correctly.

They are starting to amalgamate more and more characters as they go along (all the Westerlings into whatever-her-name-was - never warmed to her at all in the show, was never convinced they were actually in love - and Gendry and Edric Storm, for two) but hopefully they've cleared the way for a few more to enter the picture again. We've not seen anyone from Dorne yet, and they'd appeared by now in the books - I suppose the Red Viper's lot will fill the gap left by the Red Wedding.

 

I'm not too worried for Gendry, based on Edric in the books, though that doesn't mean much I suppose.

 

Did anyone ever work out why they bothered introducing Ros? Given how much they had to chop for reasons of time, it felt odd to create a new character entirely then not have her do much. I can't believe we had three seasons of her just so she could tattle to Varys, they could've done that another way.

I was disappointed when I realised they had merged Gendry with Edric Storm Edric Storm is a hilarious character because of how he was conceived: He's the bastard son of Robert Baratheon and Selyse Florent (now Stannis' wife), conceived on Stannis' day in Stannis' wedding bed. Absolutely brilliant. I guess it's not worth keeping a character in just because he has an amusing origin though.

 

While we're talking about weird nonsensical changes between the books and TV, I'd like to point out how strange it was that they changed the name of Theon's sister. I can't for the life of me figure out why they'd do that.

I believe it was to prevent confusion with Osha (wildling woman with Bran) who'd already been introduced. To those who don't read the books: Theon's sister was originally called Asha.

Did anyone ever work out why they bothered introducing Ros? Given how much they had to chop for reasons of time, it felt odd to create a new character entirely then not have her do much. I can't believe we had three seasons of her just so she could tattle to Varys, they could've done that another way.

 

1) Saved hiring a new actress to play "un-named whore" in each episode.

2) She was hot.

3) As a burlesque dancer, she was not adverse to going au naturel. That said, there are rumours that her departure came about after she decided against doing more nekkid scenes. I'm hoping that's not true. (That she was sacked for the refusal, not because she made the decision).

As an aside,apparently GRRM like Natalie Tena's performance as Osha, so she got given more screen time than Asha.

Just watched this episode and I am STUNNED and shocked! I've never felt this way before from watching a TV show but this was completely mental! I can't come to terms with what's happened! One mental twist after another! It's like Sean Bean loosing his head all over again but 100 times worse!!! Aaahggghhhh!!!!!!!!

 

Having read the series and knowing what was coming I was actually really excited to see how they'd handle it. I love the dynamic between Arya and The Hound and how they handled the Wolf was interesting. I was shocked by the initial brutality towards Jeyne as I don't remember this in the book but it worked really well as a dose of cold water to start the scene. The actress playing Caitlyn Stark did really well although she wasn't nearly as deranged as I was hoping for.

The violence was really well done IMO. I'm just seriously stunned with the fact that all those characters died that I saw none of this coming. I expected Rob and his army to be the hero, defeat everyone and become king. Now I know the line "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention", I'll be sure to expect nothing.

 

If Tyrian the P(imp) is killed off at any time though, that's when I will stop watching!

 

Also, I'm still really curious to know what's going to happen to Theon!

 

You'll be pleased to know that Tyrion has some AWESOME stuff coming up and he was still alive at the end of 'A Dance with Dragons' although his situation is... precarious. Put it that way.

 

Personally I am REALLY looking forward to Joffrey's Wedding XD

I got the feeling something was building when the doors were shut and the orchestra started playing that haunting tune. Caitlyn had a look of fear growing in her eyes. I found out later that the tune was a Lannister cautionary song.

I didn't notice the Coldplay dude but then I'm not much of a Coldplay fan and I was more focused on the gore tbh XD

Nah the guy torturing Theon is the the illegitimate son of Roose Bolton. He takes on 'disguises' and befriended Theon as 'Reek' then betrayed him. His name is Ramsey Bolton.

@AMLightfoot - "Barry" is Theon's torturer, whose identity is still unknown in the series. He's called Barry from the actor's character in Misfits - where he was actually called Simon, but another character always referred to him as Barry.

 

If you've not seen Misfits, Series 1 & 2 are superb. Watch them

When Iwan Rheon, who plays Theon's torturer, was in "Misfits" his character was often (incorrectly) called Barry - mainly by Nathan, who couldn't be bothered to learn his name. IR is also in "Vicious" on ITV am.

Until 1/2 way through Book 2, I was convinced it was all a trick and he was alive somewhere...

LOL. You think so? This brain damaged bloke was cared for and looked after by everyone at Winterfell. He's given jobs to do to make himself useful and when Bran is hurt he's given the job of carrying around one of the HEIRS of the Stark family - quite a prominent position. When Theon sacked Winterfell, Hodor was hidden and protected and now they are on the road he is no more of a slave than Osha. He is free to leave but due to his mental deficiencies he can't look after himself. Sounds to me like he's well cared for and an important person to the Stark household. So important that Bran can't really do without him.

What about Syrio Forel, though? We've not seen him turn up again anywhere, and he could still be alive... though I fear it unlikely, happy endings and all that.

Anyway, we've got one more episode this season. Season 4 to deal with the remainder of book 3.

Then, assuming they don't mix things up massively, we start to get a strongly different tale being told as the TV show will have to merge books 4 and 5 together in order to tell the story.

 

For those who are not aware the timelines of books 4 and 5 are quite "confusing". Specifically because G.R.R decided to take half the characters and tell their stories in the first book (going from points in time A to B) and then tell teh remaining 50% in book 5 (again going from point in time A to B).

I can't see a television audience being able to handle the timeline suddenly shifting back to the end of two seasons earlier in order to preserve that narrative format.

So expect to see books 4 & 5 mushed together for the TV.

 

and as they are both easily big enough to require two seasons each... we are at least 5 years away form book 6 being televised. Which is a good job as G.R.R. hasn't finished it yet.

This of course assumes the show remains popular and they deliver it in its entirety and don't finish it after season 7 (as some worrying rumours have been seen to imply).

Granted Bran can't do without him (though bran should never have climbed the tower in the first instance sparking the war!

 

Hodor is given horrible jobs (outside of carrying Bran), and whilst some of the jobs are ok, the bulk seem to be the stuff they wouldn't even have serfs do!
