cooper Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi guys I have the servers gp settings to classic menu but the taskbar and start button is grey, when i switch it back to full start menu its all grey. How can i get the colour back on I just want a classic start menu in blue and green for all workstations Thanks Cooper
mrforgetful Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Windows Server doesn't have the awful Blue that XP does, it's designed to have a smaller footprint, no need to look pretty.
webman Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Yes that's correct, themes use resources - and 'pretty' is not the best use of them on a server. If you really want a blue task bar, go to the Display properties in Control Panel, Appearance tab, Advanced button, Item: 3D Objects. Choose a blue colour, OK.... The only side effect of this is that all windows will be blue. But you do get a blue taskbar
Gatt Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Actually, win2k3 does have the XP Themes - for those who really wanna enable it (i'm with mrforgetful and webman) then you need to enable the Themes service which is Disabled by default Windows 2008 makes it a bit more tricky to enable to Vista Home Basic Theme (ie without Glass) as you need to add the Desktop Experience feature then reboot the server..
cooper Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 Sorry ive edited the post  Had a late one last night, Anyway trying to get gp settings to give users a classic start menu with a green and blue task bar Only can get it in grey Thanks cooper
mrforgetful Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 To set the Start Menu: User Config > Admin Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Force Classic Start Menu To set the Theme: User Config > Admin Templates > Desktop Themes > Load a specific Visual Style
