As examination season has started our Teachers have begun making requests to have Scoris Assessor installed on their school laptops.

Installation is fine, it's only a small application. However the software only seems to run if the user is an Administrator.

Obviously we do not want to start making Staff local Administrator of their machines, nor do we want to disable UAC (all other software works perfectly!!).

I've contacted RM who make the software only to be told that the issue I'm having is unique to me and local to our workstation.

Has anyone had any experience with this application?

I've installed this for a teacher without admin rights and not had this problem. You might be able to right click the exe and change the properties to run as admin as a workaround?

OH's PC always seems to want admin elevation for install & update (which I've never understood, as it seems to be a smartclient), thereafter runs as a normal user.

I've got exactly the same problem. It's not unique to you.

I've given users full access to the Scoris installation folder, but it's made no difference. The scoris .exe may be trying to write to a system folder.

I installed Scoris Assessor a few months ago without this problem. I *think* it was on a Windows 7 x86 at the time. This time it's on x64 - maybe that's relevant.

I've made the teacher a member of the local admins group as a workaround for now. I'm not going to experiment with it.

we had exactly the same problem, After speaking to the company that make Scoris one of their technicians advised it was a nightmare to get working reliably on a network and he recommended teaching staff do it at home.

Also worth a mention have you read the contracts from the examining boards ? Some of them say you are not permitted to use in a place of work certainly says this in the OCR guidelines.

I was told that Scoris have a fix and have submitted it to Oxford exam boards? They need to approve any changes.

Maybe sorted in the next release?

Would like to see the AUP regarding not to be used at school/work?

Forgive me for asking what is probably an irrelevant question, but if Scoris is a tool for marking/managing exams, why would they say that you can't use it at work? That doesn't seem to make any sense...

Think they get paid to do it mate. They mark random students work not linked to their employed school. Maybe it could be compared to me bringing in someones home Laptop to repair while at work?

@burgemaster you are correct the staff members get paid to mark external exams and it is a requirement that it is carried out in a non public place in a secure area, I.E. not on a train or in a classroom (or thats what I read) although if you speak to OCR they seem to give conflicting information.

Take a look at the following: http://www.ocr.org.uk/images/16200-instructions-for-on-screen-marking-marking-from-home.pdf I believe its page 8 section 3.5 that is appropriate.
