On a similar topic.. What's everybodies opinion of Strax?

I think he's awesome :p "It's beautiful.." "Should I destroy it?". Silly potato-headed buffoon.

 

I also may or may not have been slightly too amused by the fact that the Glaswegian man Strax was fighting stopped mid-fight to let him read a telegram, then simply shrugged off the fact he needed to be rendered unconscious and whacked him across the noggin without a second thought.

Good God man, be careful throwing those kind of accusations around, nothing, I repeat, nothing compares to the awfulness of Jar Jar.

 

Anyway I love Strax, he's great :)

Doctor Who... Realistic?

 

Oh yeah, I remember that time Cybermen turned up at my school. :rolleyes2:

 

Doesn't have to be realistic, but having a strong basis in actual science helps keep the fictional stuff interesting and conistent. Stargate was a prime example as they wrote an entire new science discipline surrounding the fictional wormholes and how they draw power from black holes, allow two-way radio transmissions and can be hit with a high powered charge to "jump" the connection to another gate as a forced disconnect. Star Trek is also the same (in fact look at what tech we have now inspired by it!). Deflectors protecting the front of the ship from small debris, ram-scoops on pylons collecting nuclear fuel and the theory of bending space to travel great distances all have real scientific basis.

 

Dr Who meanwhile has some basis in the more outlandish scientific theories (which covers everything to do with time!) but pulls a load of utter rubbish like defeating enemies with love or singing. Or in this episode "Where are we?" "Inside me, and that is a former me brooding in the corner." It isn't consistent either, why are people sliced up to be made into Cybermen with saws and screaming but one special episode they just clad a guy in metal plating and he broke out because he loved his daughter? And still no idea how that magic wand of his works, it's a cop-out to let him do anything. The series was fun but now smells of cop-outs, poor writing and inconsistencies because it doesn't have a proper grounding in science.

Jar Jar is no where near as annoying as the latest Checkov...
