tj2419 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Hi Anyone that has iPads in their school currently for staff use. How do you run it? What do you use to manage them? Do you allow staff to use their personal account? Or a school account? or both? Do you give staff the password for the school account (if used)? Does anyone have a policy for staff ipads that they would care to share? Thanks
FN-GM Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 They use a school account but have one each using the school email address. We don't have 1 account for all iPads. 1
BaccyNet Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 All our staff use their own personal apple accounts. They have all been told clearly that they will not be reimbursed for paid apps. I also have a one sided page regarding security, use, etc that they have to sign before they physically get it. 1

bossman Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) School has own account with VPL license, apps are purchased through vouchers and codes are entered by each subject leader who will manage 30 IPads so they will usually get the students to install using the voucher codes. We manage through the apple configurator for the moment but looking into third party MDM such as Meraki MDM admin tool which is free but there are others at a premium. We don't have a policy at the moment as it was quite a rush job, in fact it took 3 weeks to research wireless system required and gather costs, 2 day's to install, configure wireless whole school and then learn how to connect and install 25 apps in 3 days for a workshop given by an LA consultant, a little bit of a challenge but we learnt very quickly indeed and still learning every day. Good luck Edited May 14, 2013 by bossman

BaccyNet Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I do but not where I am at present. PM me your email and I'll pop it over in the morning when I'm back on site 1
IKWeb Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Hi We allow staff to use there own personal apple account. Any paid apps the schools buys are passed out via the Apple MDM servers so the staff get the best of both worlds the paid apps from the school, plus what ever they want to download under there apple IDs. Also you get the bonus of the Ipads backup to iCloud to the staff members ID.
FN-GM Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 How are the purchases funded? Through the school or individually? Same as @bossman
tj2419 Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 Do you buy the apple volume purchase gift vouchers? Only available in £100 denominations or regular vouchers? If it is the volume ones where do you purchase them from? Sorry for all the questions just trying to work out a strategy for it. Thanks
bossman Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Subject HOD's are given vouchers as part of their budgets which they have justified with the DHT in their yearly budget meetings, they have to develop a teaching and learning strategy for the use of individual apps which shows how they will be used in the classroom environment to enhance the students learning. It does deter those staff who just want to spend money on totally naff apps (lots of these) and promotes good working practice. I don't feel personally that the IPad will reign supreme for long as they are too costly for those schools that don't have the finances. I feel that utilising a good BYOD strategy will help schools move forward into the cloud and enhance the students learning without the huge costs involved in purchasing new wireless devices every 3 years.
ticker Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Please see the attached ipad aup we got staff to sign when they were handed there school ipad Ipad Guide for Staff.docx Hi Anyone that has iPads in their school currently for staff use. zag Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Staff use personal apple accounts. We ask departments to buy itunes gift vouchers for them if they need extra software. Most don't bother and just pay for it themselves.
