CC4 Network Mapping for one user

Hello all,

 

I have a NAS box and two people want to be able to access a share on it. One of the users is on the CC4 network the other isn't.

 

Please can somebody advise on how I create a mapped drive under the CC4 computer so only that CC4 user can access this mapped drive? I'm not sure how to go about this in RMMC and what to change. Also, if the user logs onto another school computer it would be good if the mapping follows her by her profile.

 

I know how to create a network share that all users can see but I seem to have some custom requests lately where only individuals want access to a certain area.

Pretty much - you can only map drives on a per computer basis on CC4. You can kind of kludge it by mapping the drive on all of the computers, but setting the student/teacher usertypes (Registry Profiles) to hide the drive mapping, and give your required user a different usertype without the mapping hidden. I wrote a bit of VB that runs on login, checks the username, and maps the required drives (relying on NTFS security to keep interlopers out)

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It's been a few months now and we didn't need this during this time but now somebody has a need to access the NAS box after all.

 

I'm a bit confused on where to put the logon script as our classroom computers are all on a CC4 network. The classroom computers don't have local users (only Administrator)

 

Please could somebody provide an example on how I go about this?
