SCCM & Domains

I want SCCM, where is the bets place to get it and whats the best price ?

 

 

It's coming to a point now where I'm going to be managing other Domains within our network, and also Domains outside our network and I believe If I had SCCM I'd be able to control / manage all aspects of the Domain.

 

I have been asked by one of our customers whether I can manage there AD Domains, from within my own network. If we are supplying there Broadband connection, It should be doable as each customer will be on a seperate VLAN.

What do you mean when you say manage the domain?

 

I would just get it from wherever you buy your current Windows software. Just a heads up that SCCM requires SQL server.

A couple of our customers outsource there IT, they want us to take it over. Since we will be supplying there connection to the internet, We thought it would be great if As part of out managed service we could manage the domain for them. Some of these companies dont have an onsite teccie and thats why it's outsourced. So if we take it over it'd be great if we could manage it with something like SCCM which I believe is possible, Ive just got myself SCCM so Im going to have a play!

But what exactly are you try to "Manage" what are you trying to achieve?

SCCM is a tool to deploy windows updates, image PCs, deploy applications and if you are licenced run System Centre Endpoint protection.

 

I assume by 'manage' you are looking to perform these tasks for your customers from any location.

 

I would imagine that as the customer would need their own individual licence for each SCCM server you would be better off doing a local install then using a VPN/etc to remote into their network and perform any of the above management tasks.

 

If you were to host it as a managed service then what if they ever leave you as a service provider? The questions asked would be who owns the lics? What would you do to transfer control to the new provider? and so on....

Good point regarding Lics... that is exactly what we wanted to do - 'I assume by 'manage' you are looking to perform these tasks for your customers from any location.'

 

I may just do it through VPN..... sounds an easier solution.

I get the feeling the SC is best suited for enterprise IT, rather than outsourced IT.

 

For outsourced IT, something like Remote Management & Software Deployment For Every Device | Centrastage or Meraki - Cloud Controlled Networks that Simply Work might be better suited.
