Id say around 500/750 are on XP, however half of these machines will not take the upgrade! There is a big bill on the way! Some of the staff machines are using celerons (*shudders*) that are over 10 years old.

 

We truly are in the dark ages.

Three, at the school I have only been culling rubbish at for a year, another week or so and there should be none. None for years now in the other schools thankfully, soo much less rubbish to deal with without them.

I wonder if there will be an ongoing market for antique hardware to run it on, kind of classic car terriroty like that company in India that makes new 1960's cars that was on Top Gear (I think that is where I saw it).

About 8-10 laptops in two schools and 10 desktops in another, one lot of laptops actually have Win 7 licenses but the muppets before us downgraded them to XP, so I'll be putting them back on 7 ASAP. the rest need replacing.

I have been pushing for an upgrade for ages but it keeps being moved back. Some genius even changed my last order for some new desktops and requested they were downgraded to xp...

We used to have about 160. But now we have 2.... I got the wrong end of the stick. I thought the support for XP ran out today. So in the last week pushed out Win 7 to all of our machines bar 2 laptops! Still not all bad

We have 1 XP machine left. It would get binned if we could get drivers for our laser cutter.

We have a few classrooms and laptops still on XP, but the current machines won't take 7, so hopefully they are being replaced in the summer. Then we will be a Windows 7 site (bar a few iMacs currently running Mountain Lion).

 

I recently upgraded out Gravograph Laser Cutter machine to W7. I had to email Gravograph for the latest drivers but they sent them and it works with no problems now .

We're going to continue with around 80 actively in-use next year because our second site is being kept open for an additional year (there'll be around the same number of students on the site). I'm hoping to keep around 60 workstations from the blocked off section of the building in reserve as spares, so we can swap them out quickly.

 

I'd have loved to give them the benefits of Windows 7 like our other site, but with the site doomed to closure it just wasn't possible. :-(

Are they not good enough for XP?

The kids are good enough for both XP and Windows 7.

 

If it was a typo and you were meaning whether the workstations were good enough for Windows 7, then probably not. We'd also need to upgrade the servers on the site to 2008 from 2003 too. If I'd known the site was going to be open for three years and I'd had a budget and control in the first year I'd probably have pressed for a different approach.
