Barcode system for checking out kit.

Hi,

 

we have a lot of kit that we loan to teachers and students, and are looking to use the Access IT software we use in the library, to manage whos got what etc. We now need to find a cheap way of generating barcode labels. Does anyone have any bomb proof methods, or software that generates barcodes and then prints onto small avery labels. Preferably free.

Why not just get your librarian to manage it all in the one system? Saves a-lot of time and hassle to everything standrized and in one spot.

 

Also Library Management Systems get quiet complex very quickly if you haven't been trained on all the aspects of your solution.

Barcode font - you just type your barcode as a number, convert it to the barcode font and print it. It should be easy enough to do a mailmerge where you type the numbers in to a spreadsheet then have those print out on a label-sheet template in your word processor.

Just use the free avery software it will generate it all for you.

We currently use Kaizen asset management Software to sign out Ipads and Laptops to staff and Students, as long as your using a "wedge" Scanner it works

It generates its own bar-codes as well as creating a document of all your bar-codes just hit print, and use a sheet of multipurpose white sticky labels to print onto.

The barcode font is called "Free 3 of 9" I think, and it's recommended you put a * before and after the number.

For example: *1234*

The *'s act as read start and stops for the barcode readers.

The Code 39 barcode generator libarary I am using now does not need you to put a * before and after the number. It is created by the library automaticlly.

yes, there is no need to put * before and after the barcode encoded data, cuz the barcode creator font will generate the start and stop character automatically. Therefore, if you put * in before or after number, the * will be used as encoded data, not start or stop character. Edited November 12, 2013 by hongdi
