We have a light fitting in the kitchen with four 50w GU10 lamps. A couple blew last night and I replaced them with some 20w ones I had lying around. So two 50s and two 20s makes the kitchen a bit dim. I know nPower will object but I'm considering replacing them with 6w LEDs. I have the option of daywhite or warmwhite. Anyone know which would be better for a kitchen? I'd guess daywhite.

Day white may well feel too cold. Will also look very different to tungsten if you still have any around the room.

cool white LEDs can be quite stark, i've been doing some testing with home built lighting recently.

I'm still undecided and may go with warm white in the kitchen, as long as there is enough light it might be more pleasant than less cool white

I have 30 3W Daylight GU10 white LEDs lighting my downstairs with all white walls. It doesn't feel cold just nice.

When i go upstairs where i have a Warm white bulb it makes the white walls seem yellowy and grimy.

Whilst the above might be too much for some. I recommend Daylight white LEDs for the kitchen. Food will look how it's supposed to look.

I have Phillips MyAmbience warm whites in the kitchen and they're bright but not cold or too yellow.

Tesco will occasionally discount them to saner prices.

Not in my kitchen it won't :)

I've just ordered some daylight ones. I'll stick them in without telling the missus and see what she says.

CPC Had an LED bulb sale a couple of months back so we swapped out 6x40w bulbs in the kitchen with LED's. It was great. The old bulbs always blew on a regular basis in there but so far the LED's have been rock solid. Not to mention the energy saving aspect of them! There was a chart somewhere that listed just how much LED's can save you in a year compared to a conventional filament bulb. It's quite a staggering amount.

Now we just need to do the front room. It has a dimmable light fitting with 5 bulbs. This ain't going to be cheap!

Wilkinsons have 1W (yes, 1W) dimmable LED GU10 bulbs for £3.99 each - rather on the blue side of "white" in my opinion, but then daylight itself probably is too, and they do seem to be be quite bright enough.

Warm white. I have 2 that are almost blue-tinged, too cold for a kitchen IMO. The other 2 are warm white, much nicer. OK, they're less "overall" bright than a halogen, but they're perfectly fine for the job. Allied to a PIR switch, we just use the kitchen and forget about the lighting aspect now..heh. Auto on, auto off.

I find LED lights look terrible. It might just be me but I can almost see the refresh of the light and makes me strain constantly. The light they give off is never the right colour and objects and people look oddly shadowed or off colour.

Get the slightly more effecient 42watt Halogen versions they'll look nice.
