Anyone play Diplomacy? Just started an online game through a different forum and it is quite cool. Simple turn based, can be set over a day so no issue with timings. More strategy than tactical.

Well I am playing my first ever game at the moment so it'll be fairly even playing field. 7 players would be good but looks like we can have anything under that. Just makes the battlefield that more sparse.

 

I'll start a roll call in the first post and see how we go.

To win you have to be strategic and diplomatic, making deals and alliances with other players, and stabbing them in the back when it suits you best.

Sounds like my kind of game.. I might have to add this to my list of 'To-be-tried'

Sure, why not? I've not created an account/downloaded anything/whatever it is you have to do (I haven't checked yet) but I'll look into it later.

Well that is a game full, if any others want to play then we could run a second game.

 

All you have to do is sign up to the website I'll generate a game and post the code and the password. You can pick up the game as you go along, it is very simple really, just can be played in depth.

Search on teh web and you'll find whole essays written on tactics.

 

Biggest noob issue someone told me was that you only capture areas in the Fall (even turns) if a unit is stationed somewhere. Not if the unit is passing through.

Looks like a cheap cut of LoL to be honest, but i've bordededed on LoL apart from ranked.

Some of the guys that made LoL made the first DOTA (which came first, as a Warcraft mod), if my grapevine info is correct. Which it may not be. But it might. So that would technically make LoL the cheap cut of DOTA

 

Having played both, I find DOTA to be fairer and better all-round. It's admittedly much more intimidating to start, since all ~100 heroes are free. A new player sits there going 'AAAAH! WHAT DO I DO?!", feeds to hell and gets the rest of his team annoyed (unless you're me, I do my best to calmly explain things to new players, but I don't usually get grouped with them now due to the way matchmaking works). Fortunately, unlike LoL, you can't report someone for being a noob/inexperienced

 

Back OT (again).. So we have to wait for the game to have everybody registered in it before it starts, right? That gives me time to research it when I get home later xD
