Make sure you put the other two updates from the article in there too. Otherwise you will be looking at random data loss.

 

Yes it helped with lots of 'random' annoying inconsistent behaviours in Windows 7.

 

Did it speed things up? Definitely if you were seeing the slow log on issues.

 

Recently many of the components that this rollup patched, have been patched by platform updates and security updates that were delivered via WSUS. However as a base line, any Windows 7 image should contain 277551.

Yes I added the other 2 updates to my image too.

 

I wouldn't say we suffer slow logins, but we do suffer from the random slowness during bootup where it might take like 5+ mins to get to the logon screen or slow logins every now and again.

Is this still worth installing as of May 2016? I notice that all of the required fixes (the main one and the two hotfixes, 2732673 and 2728738 ) are now in the WSUS catalog making it easy to import at least

I would have thought that MS would have fixed these issues in mainline Windows Update by now?

This post is a few years old now, and here I am still trying to speed up new user login times on Win7 Enterprise 64 in a student computer lab. The documentation is a little daunting but there are some nice-sounding promises. If I apply this rollup to a fully updated system, what's the worst that could happen?

Based on what I have read this hotfix is no longer required since it has been superseded by the Convenience Rollup...

I wish I'd registered here long ago. I sacrificed too much of the summer on trying to get a usable Windows 10 image for student lab use and let my attention to 7 lag.

I added this to my Windows 7 image a few months back and to be honest I haven't noticed any difference in login times.

That's not to say it's not increased boot times or login times it's just nothing that is immediately noticeable.

If your Windows system is fully up-to-date then there wouldn't be any need to install the Convenience Rollup either because Windows Update should have installed all of the necessary updates already. I'm not sure why KB3020369 doesn't show up though.

 

How are you creating your Windows 7 image? Are you using MDT?

Windows was fully up-to-date, but it took the Convenience Rollup quite some time to install anyway. I didn't even look for it in the Update History. I'm so sick of fighting with Windows 7 updates over the past year!

 

I build my images the old fashioned way. MDT is way too complicated for me, I'm OLD!! I create the image from MVLS media, use sysprep and dism and image machines one by one from flash drives. I've used 3rd party systems in the past, e.g. Ghost and Acronis, but once I got familiar with Microsoft's native tools I stuck with them. We don't have that many desktops to worry about.

 

If I can get a new user logon to a minute or less, I'm happy.

Kind of fitting given that we're near the 10 year anniversary of the Enterprise Hotfix rollup, and while SP1 went officially out of support in 2020 new updates have been released from time to time. Apparently though this months updates were the last ones ever for realsies this time.

 

Mind you 2775511 really should have been called sp2 and if it had we'd still have another couple of months of support due.
