NumberSix Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Hello, I've just rebuilt a laptop and now in RMMC it's showing under general tab as: Type of computer: Unknown Any way to change this as it's a laptop and I've never had this problem before when rebuilding a machine. It's also saying: Some items are disabled because your selection includes a server. Thanks, ns
X-13 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I've just rebuilt a laptop and now in RMMC it's showing under general tab as: Type of computer: Unknown It either hasn't finished building, or it didn't build properly. I've had this a few times when the RM gubbins has crashed part way during the build.
NumberSix Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 Ok, thanks for that - I couldn't see anything running in tasks for this laptop - I'll wait a while longer and if nothing is happening I'll rebuild. Thanks, ns
Edu-IT Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 This can happen if the machine doesn't leave the 'build area' on CC4 networks. I think it is easily fixed, just can't recall the exact instructions. RM Support will be able to help if you have a case open? Worth checking before you do a rebuild unless you are happy to rebuild.
andyturpie Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 It's happened here only once or twice. We have had workstations build as a tablet here because we rebuilt a PC with a graphics tablet left in the USB socket lol.
NumberSix Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 Thanks all - it seems to have changed its type now to a laptop but I still can't see anything running against it under tasks in progress - so will leave it for a while and then check it's in a usable state. Our CC4 network seems to have a few gremlins at the moment.
X-13 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 but I still can't see anything running against it under tasks in progress Make sure "view tasks for all users" is checked. [or whatever it's called... CBA to check.] The build process runs as "system".
andyturpie Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Might be worthwhile restarting the RM services, I have an available .bat file that I can send you if you need it. If there are still gremlins, then I would say postgres needs a good hoovering from RM.
Doodadotdit Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I am having exactly the same problem. I have three devices classed as 'Unknown' in RMMC and when I try to do a rebuild it fails stating 'Type not found' at the package installation stage. I have tried using RM Smart Client, but this also fails. It appears to be passing 'unknown' as the type in the parameters. I tried to see if I can bypass this by running Smart Client as a command and passing parameters, but this doesn't work. Has anybody had this issue and found a solution?
