Arthur Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 The original PS3 is gigantic compared to the PS4! http://snag.gy/PYrI2.jpg
tmcd35 Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Here's an interesting size comparison http://static.trustedreviews.com/94/000027f45/bc7c_orh616w616/Next-gen-console-size-comparison.jpg
X-13 Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Here's an interesting size comparison http://static.trustedreviews.com/94/000027f45/bc7c_orh616w616/Next-gen-console-size-comparison.jpg PS4 looks about the same size as a Wii, which is good as mine is going where my Wii is.
flyinghaggis Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) Looks like some reviews of the launch games are starting to appear online. Currently the only game I have on pre-order with the Console is Battlefield 4. Killzone has been getting slightly above average reviews so I might give that a miss just now. looks awesome though so I'll probably grab that from the PS online store too Edited November 13, 2013 by flyinghaggis
Guest Guest Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 OMG the xbox is huge! How ever am I going to fit it under my 50 inch TV?!!
tmcd35 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 looks awesome though so I'll probably grab that from the PS online store too Resogun and Contrast are the free PS4 games for PS+ subscribers next month, with GRID 2 for PS3 (Suppose that makes up for the lack of #DriveClub - NOT!)
SYNACK Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 OMG the xbox is huge! How ever am I going to fit it under my 50 inch TV?!! I know, mine is going to look simply massive and out of place under the 3m screen I project on to, how will I cope
featured_spectre Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Pulled from a facebook group I am a member of So it seems some of the pre-release Playstation 4's have been broken. One before it was working, some during the first start up and others through a test run through, and some during updating of the firmware. More info here Broken PlayStation 4 Systems - IGN I will say this, when playing at Eurogamer, it wasn't a bad system, I'll look forward to owning both "next gen" systems
tmcd35 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I saw that the other day. Part of me wants to shrug it off as normal manufacturing defects - a small percentage of any tech will be faulty. Part of me wants to shrug it off and say bad shipment, yanks are getting them 2 weeks before us. Part of me is looking online at extended warranty deals!
featured_spectre Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Be awfully bad luck to have the entire bad shipment go to all the magazines and reviewers who get first hands on them!
ZeroHour Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Any console arriving DOA (or DOA just after opening) shouldnt happen tbh, not even the 360 had that issue. Its concerning when only a small % of the shipments have been distro'ed so far. Remember all preorders have already been made for UK etc so who knows. It may hopefully just be a firmware issue, its not the first time for Sony.
Theblacksheep Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) Any console arriving DOA (or DOA just after opening) shouldnt happen tbh, not even the 360 had that issue. MS blinkers on? The 360 did. A friend got through 5 in ONE year inc 3 DOAs and 2 other RRODs. Edited November 14, 2013 by Theblacksheep
zag Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Thats why I always wait 6 months for the 2nd generation hardware to appear
ZeroHour Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) MS blinkers on? The 360 did. A friend got through 5 in ONE year inc 3 DOAs. I knew no one that had that. I did know people including myself with dead ps3's and no linux boot. Edited November 14, 2013 by ZeroHour
Theblacksheep Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) I knew no one that had that. Well, you are in the lucky 45.8%. Credit to MS they sorted them out in 2008 and gave everyone retrospective 3 year warranty. Edited November 14, 2013 by Theblacksheep
ZeroHour Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Make much use of linux on the PS3 then? I only bought a ps3 after a while as the 360 had superior gaming/online but I eventually wanted to try GT (aka cars on rails part 6) and Yellow dog to find a month later my install was dead. Sony, the company that removes a feature they heavily promoted because there was a v slim chance it could be used to play cracked games (and that presumes they couldnt prevent it) and this is before we get to their rather chequered past with CD DRM schemes etc. The biggest problem with the PS4 is Sony.... and Jack Tretton I am hoping they have learned, I suppose they have to considering the books are so bad, but until I see Sony not being typical Sony I doubt I will be buying. This includes the crap they put out as PR statements like children.
ZeroHour Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Well, you are in the lucky 50% Xbox 360 failure rate = 54.2%? - GameSpot Thats a survey! not a fact by a long way, have you not seen how easy it is to get a survey to say what you want??
featured_spectre Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 @ZeroHour beat me too it. I could do a survey now, and ask such a skewed question that it will look like that MS are gods compared to Sony.
Theblacksheep Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) Thats a survey! not a fact by a long way, have you not seen how easy it is to get a survey to say what you want?? If you don't ask people how are you going to find out? Ask Microsoft? Have you looked into it apart from saying you're OK therefor it's not a problem? This was their response to that particular survey: We are constantly improving the design, manufacture and performance of the console through extensive testing of potential sources of any problems. Xbox 360 is pleased to maintain the title of 'most played console' and the vast majority of Xbox 360 customers have enjoyed a terrific gaming and entertainment experience since their first day, and continue to, day in and day out. GDC08 MS announced they got their failure rates on new unites down to that of other consoles. There's a wiki article on it here if you want to read more about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems MS put aside 1BN for 360 replacements: Microsoft takes $1b hit over Xbox 360 glitches - The Microsoft Blog Warranty company SquareTrade had the failure rate at 17% with their returns. Tech standard is 3%-6% for "acceptable" failure rate. Some PS4's are going to fail and if its like other consoles it is likely to be atleast one in every 30. Like I said, credit to MS for giving everyone 3 year warranties until the redesigned "slim" model (dropped down to 1 year again). Edited November 14, 2013 by Theblacksheep
nicholab Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I am waiting for the PS4 slim the PS3 is still a great Media centre.
CAM Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Looks like the Internet shall be fun to watch this weekend if PS4's are dropping like flies across the world.
featured_spectre Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Warranty company SquareTrade had the failure rate at 17% with their returns. Tech standard is 3%-6% for "acceptable" failure rate. Like I said, credit to MS for giving everyone 3 year warranties until the redesigned "slim" model (dropped down to 1 year again). I have a first Gen Xbox360 Elite, and a slim. Both have been played heavily. My first gen Elite was played for close to 4000 hours before getting the slim model, and since getting the slim, has had maybe a further 1000 hours on top by the mrs. My slim has had close to 2000 hours since its release. Neither xbox has let me down, and I don't know anyone personally that had a RROD. Considering my friends list on xbox is also close to 100 people, and none of them have had any issues with the xbox either, seems like we must all be lucky.
Theblacksheep Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) I have a first Gen Xbox360 Elite, and a slim. It was the genuine 1st gen premium and core models with 95nm that were prone. Elite wasn't until 2007 and had the 65nm chip. You've not been lucky, they sorted themselves out by then. Not for you @nephilim, just didnt want to double post: 4,000 people got their PS4's early from a Taco Bell promotion, with a currently failure rate of 0.17% OMG! Failz! OMG! Some people are just dying to post bad news. Edited November 14, 2013 by Theblacksheep
tmcd35 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I am waiting for the PS4 slim Dear God - how much slimmer do you want it/can they make it? 4,000 people got their PS4's early from a Taco Bell promotion, with a currently failure rate of 0.17% 0.17% failure? I'm happy taking my chances with those odds
featured_spectre Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Still a considerable percentage with a figure that will invariably go UP when more people get theirs.
