It does, yes, as the entire festival used a mobile app to guide people this time, rather than printed materials. All the journalists etc... used it too.

So each AP is connected by 1GB link - and each 1GB link can have 1000 users on it..... hmm. I guess that proves that 10GBE is pointless for schools then.

Depends what you're doing on the connection. If you're going down the 1:1 device route, all of them using the web, then 10GbE is indeed pointless. The bandwidth requirements on that network wouldn't be high per user.

 

However, if you're going full windows + profile etc..., then you're going to need a much more dense deployment just to get the backbone bandwidth needed.

If all their courses are running through one individual mobile app with no or very limited video. I'm sure industrial gear helps too and even with those metrics if you have a school with over 1000 users then you need more than 1GB even for a simple smartphone app that grabs a tiny bit of scheduling information once an hour or so instead of all sorts of resources all at the same time.

ok, so what I said with one AP per classroom and 100+ AP's stands true, in a windows world.

A network to support 8500 devices in pockets with a few hundred geographically dispersed low bandwidth users, and a few tens of high bandwidth users, requires a very different design than a network to support 90-120 high bandwidth users in a 120M^2 space.

 

 

On 1GbE vs 10GbE, it really depends on your network design, and available budget. If you've got 200 3x3 Radios hanging off a stack of switches you are going to need a 10GbE backhaul to your core/controller to be able to support the likely load you've designed for. However if you've only got a few APs per lightly loaded switch then a 1GbE backhaul is sufficient.

This is the old two-dresses problem. "I've seen a dress for £80" ...that seems a lot... "but I bought one for £40" ...thank goodness for that...

 

I like the fact it says £15,000 for a 500-pupil school, that way at £8000 I can do it for half the price. Where's the Ruckus catalogue gone?
