russdev Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Question has any one heard of capita not supporting a 64Bit server 2003 software does this seem right? and does the sql2005 have to be 32Bit as well? Russ
russdev Posted October 13, 2007 Author Posted October 13, 2007 Found answer thanks http://support.capitaes.co.uk/newforum/main.asp?params=%95%9E%A1%9B%A0%A6%C8%A0%B3%9C%95%A2%A8%A0%A5%A8%9B%93%A9%A7%A9%A7%9F%B1%A5%DF%98%CE%E3%E2%D5%DD%E9 Russell
Sylv3r Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I've just bought a new server for SIMS. I've checked the capita support forum and it still states not to use windows 2003 64 bit version. Has anybody giving this a go and did you manage to get it to work? It appears that FMS will not run on a 64bit server but is that so a major problem as long as it runs on the workstations? Any help and advice is appreciated. One of the processors was the wrong one that I got sent in the HP double processor and double memory offer so I have a bit of time before a replacement is sent as to decide what OS to install. I'll probably go live in the february half term but would like to test beforehand - if I know for sure that the 64bit is no good I will go straight into testing with 32bit windows. Thanks
dhicks Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Has anybody giving this a go Yes. and did you manage to get it to work? No. if I know for sure that the 64bit is no good I will go straight into testing with 32bit windows. Actually, SIMS itself might well run just fine on Windows 2003 64bit, but its installation/upgrade routines won't. -- David Hicks
steve Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I tried it too but with no success. Given enough time / effort it may be possible, but as capita won't test on it, future updates may become an issue.
klawd Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 The sims.net client works fine on 2003 64bit, we use it as our terminal server to provide remote access. FMS doesnt work, as already stated Never tried installing a SIMS server as 64bit, cant understand why it apparently doesnt work...
contink Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Seems a little disingenuous of Capita given that MS are forcing 64 bit on us with Exchange 2007..
PhilNeal Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 We don't test on a 64bit server yet and don't at the moment have a date when we will but it is likely to be this year. Testing on a 64bit server actually doubles our test costs which is a huge commitment. In theory SIMS including FMS should run on a 64 bit server but FMS & NOVA will definately not run on a 64bit client. As said before the installers are likely to object.
