EduGeek Buy Facility

You may have noticed something new on the site today(look in the top right-hand side, below your profile box). This is our new service in partnership with E-Qoute Central, a company which specialises in online quotes - they were previously responsible for School Quote.

 

The system we have partnered with allows you to post your requirements in total anonymity and have the UK's largest online retailers provide quotes direct to you. Only once you have initiated contact with a bidder is your identity revealed. These quotes also count as your 3 quotes for large orders!

 

As the system is now something we have created you will have to sign up, a relatively painless procedure which will involve BuyFocus contacting you via phone to confirm that you are indeed a school (education discounts etc), and not a private company trying to get discounts. Once on the system you should find it quite straight forward to use.

 

To assist you in getting to grips with this system we have created an EduGeek-Buy forum in the Purchasing and Trading section and have Sam from BuyFocus monitoring the forum all day to answer any queries you may have.

 

Points to note:

 

1. The minimum quote time is 5 days, as of yet there is no option for urgent quotes (48 hrs or less notice). This is being worked on at our request.

 

2. You can view any quotes that another member has been offered and if you see a particularly good deal you too can have it for that price if you order within a 1 week period of the original quote being offered.

 

3. Please use the EduGeek-Buy portal and NOT School Quote or the default BuyFocus site as you will not get the educational discount or be recognised as an EduGeek member. If you always browse to http://www.edugeekbuy.net you should have no problems.

 

4. Let us know what you think and what features you would like to see in the forum we mentioned above. It is the first time BuyFocus has teamed up with purchasers who really know what they want and are talking about. Their previous system which this is based on was designed for and used primarily by teachers.

 

5. Most of our sponsors are already registered with BuyFocus and will be quoting too, and they will still be posting offers and promotions here on EduGeek as well.

 

6. You can request quotes for ANYTHING - even non-IT gear so hopefully you can find discounts for things you wouldn't normally be purchasing.

What if we're a private school? We are a private company, although we are also a registered charity.

What about for getting quotes for schools I work in under NorthantsIT.co.uk?

I usually do the sourcing because I know where to get the best deals, i.e edugeek.

@dhicks & apoth0r: If you normally get edu discounts, you should still qualify - it will be the suppliers that have the restrictions and not BuyFocus. Just make sure you mention edu pricing when requesting a quote.

I have used schoolquote for years and found it very useful - sometimes bagging ridiculous bargains on things like switches. The staff there are incredibly helpful - I think Sam gave me a guided tour of the site over the phone when I signed up. They also took a suggestion for the site and developed it within a few weeks.

Is it still not working? We have a cookie issue that may be connected with it. This is being looked at right now. Shaun has let Buy Focus knwo what fixes they need to put in place, and we are just awaiting them implementing it. Thsi is becuase the edugeek.buy link is a redirect to an otherwise mangled URL type link and this is easier to remember!

Still not working, but it does look like an LA issue. I'm not getting their blockpages at all at the moment (just timeouts) but it is behaving the same as other sites that they definitely do block.

Just come across this one and my immediate reaction was WHAT??? :confused: Edugeek actually bought Facility (our useless management system which doesn't talk to our learning platform?)

 

Anyone else had that moment?
