It's interesting how other rumours say the Nexus 5 will be released on the 31st. Nobody seems to know for sure. :(

 

Google should skip the launch event and just release their new Android devices on the Play Store unannounced. The N5 and N10 will sell themselves!

Google's Android.com promotional site was revamped with the launch of the Nexus 5, and it seems that Google is already using it to drop hints about its next device. If you head to the Apps & Entertainment section of the new site and scroll down to the second large image, you'll see a picture of a woman holding a tablet that we've never seen before.

Just to dig up an old-ish thread, it seems that there is quite a bit of talk now appearing on the net with unhappy bunnies bemoaning the fact that there is still no sign of the new Nexus 10.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone and the Christmas rush is well underway, but still no sign of the new Nexus 10, or 9 if you are listening to certain rumours currently spreading.

It's slowly turning out to bit a bit of a PR disaster for Google with some commenting on the rumour that Google wants to run down stocks of the current Nexus 10 before launching, which is a bit poor if you are waiting to buy.

With the cut-off date for Christmas web orders fast approaching this isn't looking good for Google if they want a successful launch. If it does launch in the new year I suspect that it won't generate the sales they had expected.

I did hear that Google had a moment when the iPad Air was released and that the 10" Nexus was being reworked before being released.

With fierce competitors including the likes of Samsung, Dell and Acer and Amazon, Google's second generation Nexus 7 tablet demand has been affected as these and other vendors offer cheaper options for 7-inch models. In a reactive move Google is now planning to focus on the 8-inch tablet market from mid-2014, according to sources interviewed by Taiwan's DigiTimes.

 

"Because most 7-inch Android tablets have already seen their price drop below NT$5,000 (£100), the second-generation Nexus 7, which is priced starting at US$229 (£140), is seeing that its demand is weaker than expected, especially compared to the first-generation model's six million unit shipments," said DigiTimes upstream supply chain sources.

 

In order to break free from the packed 7-inch tablet market Google is rumoured to be focussing on an 8-inch alternative for 2014 and will also launch the 'Nexus 8' with a display to match that built-into Apple's iPad Mini 2 (a so so-called 'Retina' model).

I hope this is true, i have been toying with the idea of buying a Nexus 10 when its released but i think 8 inch is the ideal size for a tablet so will definitely be holding off for that.

NVIDIA expects HTCs Nexus 9 to arrive imminently

 

The chip maker expects the tablet to begin shipping during the third quarter of 2014, and some believe it could be announced at HTC’s “Double Exposure” event on October 9.

 

We've been hearing a lot about the Nexus 9 in recent months, and speculation is becoming more rampant now that Google’s newest Nexus tablet is well over a year old. The device is expected to replace both the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10 and become the only tablet in Google’s hardware lineup, with specifications that will blow its rivals right out of the water.

 

In addition to its 64-bit Tegra K1 chip, the Nexus 9 will reportedly come with a 9-inch Quad HD display, up to 4GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and NFC connectivity. We’ve also seen leaked images of a snap-on case that has an integrated keyboard, much like Microsoft’s Type Cover for the Surface Pro.

 

If NVIDIA says the Nexus 9 will ship during the third quarter of 2014, HTC and Google have until the end of this month to announce it, and that seems unlikely at this point. We’re not sure it’ll appear at HTC’s “Double Exposure” event next month, either, which is hinting at another HTC product with a Duo Camera like the One M8.

 

We could well be surprised, however. Google has been known to announce devices out of the blue in the past — without a press event — so it’s possible it could appear in the Google Play Store without warning any day now. It certainly seems like the Nexus 9 isn’t too far away at this point.

I was quite interested in the Nexus 9 especially as it looks like it's going to have a 4:3 ratio screen which, to me at least, is a much better form factor for a tablet than 16:9.

Should be out soon and the specs are great but the rumoured price tag is a bit worrying. It's actually looking like it'll be priced at the same level as an iPad Mini retina if the rumours are to be believed. Previous Nexus phones/tablets have always been appealing due to their high specs and low-ish price points. It's a bold strategy on Google's part if they're going to try and price their new tablet on a par with Apple's iPad.

A 16GB Nexus 10 costs £319, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the Nexus 9 starting at £299. I'm guessing the keyboard case will be expensive just like all Nexus accessories. £69-£89 perhaps? :(

 

It will be a shame if it is that price since Xiaomi's MiPad has similar specs (Tegra K1, 2GB RAM, 4:3 1536x2048 LCD, 802.11ac) and costs around £140 (or £245 for the 64GB model) - although it is slightly smaller and more plasticy. Likewise nVidia's own Tegra K1 tablet is only £240, but has a lower-res 8.0" 1080p screen.

Really disappointed Google have decided to go down the phablet route with their new Nexus phone :mad:

 

I quite fancied making the jump from my iPhone to android and thought the new Google phone would be the best option but I'm not interested in a phone that large.

The 5.9" Nexus 6 should be physically smaller than Apple's 5.5" iPhone 6 Plus if that makes any difference? :)
