20th September 2012, 07:59 PM #1 2012 DHCP replacing 2003 DHCP
So I have taken the plunge and set up a couple of 2012 servers (Don't you just love Hyper V) and installed DHCP on both and configured the scopes and options, and they are sat waiting to be authorised.
So how would you move forward? at the moment I have a 2003 DHCP server so I thought set the leases to a short time and then unauthorise the 2003 DHCP server and authorise the two 2012 servers over the weekend.

20th September 2012, 10:59 PM #3 Here's how to migrate DHCP between 2003 and 2008 R2. I suspect the commands are exactly the same for 2012, but please check this before proceeding!

24th September 2012, 07:43 PM #6 I tried this over the weekend and it didn't work for me, it seems that the leases didn't transfer. So what I have ended up doing made the lease duration on my original server 6 hours, and then deleted all the leases and allowed the clients to get their new leases with the shortened time. Tonight I have deactivated the original scope and activated the two scopes on the new servers, fingers crossed all will be fine in the morning.

24th April 2013, 01:02 PM #8 Sorry about that I should have followed this up.
On the whole it was a very smooth transition doing what I said above, I think I did have two duplicate ip addresses but that was easily fixed with a release / renew. Everything has worked very smoothly since without a problem.

Are you using the two servers in Failover mode?? This is a great new feature for DHCP in server 2012
