    Quote or pointer on a cheap server please.

    Looking to get [ ASAP to replace a failing server ] a cheap server which will run Server 2003 and a SQL server in-house [ not by me thank god ] MIS system.
    It's currently sitting on a Xeon 3065 2.33GHz with 1GB RAM - ProLiant G5 Tower.
    The Raid is failing but it's not indicating anywhere which disk in the mirror is failing [ that's my diagnosis ]
    This server is due to be migrated from a physical to a virtual in the summer but I don't want to risk taking a hit on it now so will just build another one and get the database manager to move the it over.

    HP are offering 100 cashback on their little N36 Proliant boxes... how many users is SQL servicing?

    It might do the job...

    Hardy any - if it was the max it would only be around 30 to 40 so not a huge load on it. This should do the job - just need the extra HD:

    http://uk.insight.com/en-gb/producti...vers/HPIA07P1E

    Will it run Server 2003 ? The spec states:

    Operating System / Software

    * OS Certified : Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux

    Nice, which version of Server ?

    Seems the N36 won't take Server 2003 so I'm now looking at the ML110 G6 - however it does not state what RAID controller this has [ if any ]
    Jesus bleeding christ - why do companies making selecting a cheap server so bleeding complicated !!

    How odd...

    You could always stick VMware ESXi on it and then install 2003 as a Virtual Server...

    Can someone please tell me if this:

    HP ProLiant ML110 G6 578930-035 | Insight UK
    Then choose the specification tab.

    which states this:

    Storage Controller

    * Type : 1 x Serial ATA - integrated
    * Channel Qty : 6

    Means It supports RAID. [ I think it does but would prefer a second opinion ]

    Thanks.

    As for the ML110 - from looking at the HP specs (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/q...13477_div.HTML) it looks like it does support RAID.

    VMware is cool though... very cool. :-)

    Check the VMWare HCL on the cheaper HP servers, some have a weird RAID chipset that wasn't supported on ESXi last time I checked (that was on an ML150 so not sure if the 110 uses the same)
