Afternoon, Does anyone know of any recycling companies that pick up for free in central dorset and for free? We have a lot of old kit that needs to go! Found one in Southampton that said 50 miles range but then when asked said we were out of scope..... (tbf is 46miles....)

I am looking for a WEEE collection company that operates in Somerset, that offers wheelie bins to store things in. I have tried one national company, and they have let me down with failing to collect since my request on Sept 1st. So, I'm looking for an alternative. Anyone got a reliable WEEE collection company that operates in Somerset, preferably free, and provides bins?

Hi folks, When I first started here, a couple of years ago, we were looking to dispose of some electrical items and a colleague of mine went through all the issues relating to it and got a WEEE license from the Environment Agency (no great expense as £18 a year). Apparently we have to have this license before we can throw any electrical items away, and then we have to be sure it's going to be recycled rather than going to landfill. Is the above definitely the case? I'm struggling to find any previous posts about this specific issue, or anything specific via Google. TIA

Hi all, We have been using Stone recycling for reductant hardware disposal for the last couple of years but recently they have become more restrictive on what they will accept an none of our kit is new enough for them Who do you guys use? Do you get free collections or are your resigned to this becoming a paid for service. TIA!

Hi all, Kind of lost touch with all of the GDPR regs and how to dispose of I.T kit. I have a small amount of kit that I no longer have a use for, and have been apporoached by a member of staff's son who runs his own I.T business. He said he could use the kit for spares. Where do I stand legally if I wanted to 'donate' the kit to said individual? I am understand that the HDDs / configs will need to be securely wiped and can easily do this internally. Do I need to prove that the data was wiped and does the recipient of the kit need to provide anything to the school in terms of paperwork? I am not aware of the recipient being a formal recycling company. Just wanted to be sure where I stand before making any decisions. Many thanks,

Hi all, I've got about 16 desktops plus some monitors and other bits that need to be disposed of. Being an academy we can't use the County waste sites, can anyone recommend a WEEE disposal firm that would puck up the kit and recycle it? We're based in Cornwall and would need the drives wiping. Thanks in advance

Hello All, If you have old equipment that needs disposing off, please get in touch. Ask me about our GreenITBox the innovative, green, compliant and certified way to dispose of your redundant IT kit. There are 2 sizes small and large. Thanks Zak

Hi, i work in a primary school in London, does anyone know a company that will collect redundant hardware for free? Thx

Keen to find out who people of using for collection/ disposal of old and broken IT items?

Morning All, Can anyone recommend a hardware recycling company in the East Anglia region? I have had a search and have sent a few emails but had zero response Many thanks, TomHD

Some of you in the South may be interested in this charity: Jamies Computers - Re-use and Recycling "Jamie's Computers is a division of The Society of St James; a Southampton and Hampshire based registered charity founded in 1972 to address poverty, sickness, hardship and distress, with a focus on homeless and vulnerable people."

They provide lockable bins which you fill up and then give them a call to collect. Would make disposal easier for us.

anybody recommend reliable company to take old equipment away and dispose, provide proper certificates and maybe some money back?

Got a garage full of old CRT Monitors, Acorn Computers, few old printers, and desk PC's. Also a few other general electrical items (old OHP's etc). Does anyone know any companies that will take it for free? We are located in South Derbyshire. Thanks

Having recently learned that the company we have previously used no longer services our area, I've been looking round for new recycling companies. Now, are these companies having a laugh post-WEEE Directives, or are their costs fair? Collections which used to be free or have a nominal £50 price tag are now going to cost me several hundred pounds per year. The price does further encourage me to give functioning equipment to charity rather than send it for materials reclamation, however we still need to find a means of getting rid of dead equipment. I'd be interested to hear of any companies people have found who are not asking such (seemingly) exorbitant figures for this work.

Ok I have been reading in this WEEE stuff and have come to the conclusion that companies supplying WEEE should take the same amount of kit back for free? Is this correct? Also if this is not correct and/or to dispose of additional equipment you have to pay a company. I am looking for the quickest, cheapest and painless way to dispose of old monitors and base units, keyboards and mice. I have found a local company that can take the stuff away for £5.99 per item, so thats £5.99 a monitor, £5.99 a base unit, £5.99 a box of cables and strangely £5.99 for a keyboard and £5.99 for a mouse! So I was going to hold onto keyboards and mice for now as they take up less space. If 5.99 for each of the bulky items a good deal? Will I be wasting tax payers money going for it or should I look around some more? I don't have the time to start sending equipment to companies we bought new stuff from as we have used several. I also don't have time to check computers over to send them to computer aid or another similar charity. It would also cost us a lot on shipping. So do I cough up the 5.99 per item, including 5.99 for old projector lamps and laser printers or is there another solution? I wan't it to be cost effective whilst not taking up my time as my time is money too so what goes around comes around really. I have read some threads on WEEE before but I don't know if anyone mentioned the costs or what they have actually done themselves. A lot of it seems what people 'think' or 'know' not what they have experienced first hand. Oh and we are givingsome old equipment away to other schools and staff. Should I get them to sign something with the item serial number on as if they get rid of it irresponsibly in future then the SMART WATER on the items may bring them back to school and we might get fined for it! I was to completely sign out any equipment that leaves schools so it is no longer the school's responsibility. Cheers all! John
