Hi everybody. I am sure by now we have all seen the exact same old boring print script a thousand times. You create a set of groups sharing the same name as your printers and add your machines to those groups. How ever, I felt that this basic boring print script was actually sub standard and that as a programmer I could whip up something with a lot more functionality. So with out further delay I present to you my Over Complicated Printer Logon script lets begin with a break down of how this print script is superior Logging: The ability to create a text log of what the print script is doing, perfect for debugging those irritating issues. Recursive Groups: When searching for printer groups, say if my machine is a member of a sub group or a sub sub sub group with a printer then it still gets the printer. Multiple Servers: Why map printers on 1 print server, when you can map printers on all your print servers. Exclusion Group: You can add a group that prevents the print script from making any changes to the computers printers. OU Group Printers: You can define a group using a named prefix in an ou container, any machine in this ou will search that group for printer groups too. Follow Me Printers: Not only can you define print groups by machine and ou but it will also search the logged in user for printer groups. Easy to understand config section built into the script, this is the one part you are allowed to change. Print Servers Group name to prevent printer changes Print group name prefix Delete local printers, yes or no Enable ou printer groups Prefix name of ou printer groups File path for logging (supports %USER% and %COMPUTER%). I do apologise, I am the absolute worst at explaining things, but if you have any questions just drop em below and i shall do my best to reply with an answer. Printer Script: Click here for the Gist on Github. Please keep note of the version number in the top comment as this will be used to track changes. The bar for printer scripts has now been raised! Thank you and Enjoy! - - - Updated - - - Reserved for change log.

I have a very simple script to remove all network printers, however this does not remove old printers that are no longer attached to the network. How should I modify the attached script to remove 'all' printers? Go easy on me, scripts are not my forte remove-network-printers.vbs.txt

Afternoon! This could well be one of the first, if not THE first post on this forum so Hello everyone. I have spent the first week of the Half-Term holidays deploying Windows 7 to all our curriculum computers around the site using WDS. Everything is working AOK (we were running Windows Vista before). EXCEPT the printers! We have the printers install depending on computer name so for example LIB-PC01 will install the Library printers: ; If logged onto a Library Compute ; Clear all printers and connect Lib-Laser and Lib-Colour if INSTR(@WKSTA,"LIB-") > 0 ADDPRINTERCONNECTION ("\\server-01\Lib-Colour") ADDPRINTERCONNECTION ("\\curriculum\Lib-Laser") ;*** Printer Script for IT2 *** IF INSTR(@WKSTA,"IT2-") > 0 ADDPRINTERCONNECTION ("\\printserver\IT2-Laser") This is very hit and miss and sometimes nothing will happen, sometimes the driver will install but the printer won't appear in the list. I need help with this ASAP please as I really don't want to go around the whole site installing them locally which is what I will have to do if I can't find a solution from this website or other resources. Thanks! PS. Not a biggy but the Group Policy settings for Desktop Wallpaper also seems to be playing up on W7, ie. it appears BEHIND a black desktop background. Our one is definately pushing through because when logging off it appears briefly once the black overlay(?) disappears.

In this topic I asked how to find out what Active directory OU and Machine was in. Using a bit of code from the posts there and a Regex function i found i wrote this: 'Printer Script based on AD Group 'Written by Adam Laycock (Arcath) 'July 2009 'Variables Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network") Set oPrinters = WshNetwork.EnumPrinterConnections printServer = "SERVERNAME" 'Set this to the machine that is your Print Server DefaultColourPrinter = "\PRINTERNAME" 'The Main Colour Printer DefaultBWPrinter = "\PRINTERNAME" 'The Main Black and White Printer 'Functions 'Get First Match 'Returns the First REGEX Match for the pattern you supply 'from http://www.somacon.com/p138.php Function GetFirstMatch(PatternToMatch, StringToSearch) Dim regEx, CurrentMatch, CurrentMatches Set regEx = New RegExp regEx.Pattern = PatternToMatch regEx.IgnoreCase = True regEx.Global = True regEx.MultiLine = True Set CurrentMatches = regEx.Execute(StringToSearch) GetFirstMatch = "" If CurrentMatches.Count >= 1 Then Set CurrentMatch = CurrentMatches(0) If CurrentMatch.SubMatches.Count >= 1 Then GetFirstMatch = CurrentMatch.SubMatches(0) End If End If Set regEx = Nothing End Function 'Remove all the Network Printers from the Machine For i = 0 to oPrinters.Count - 1 Step 2 On Error Resume Next if Left(oPrinters.Item(i), 3) <> "lpt" And Left(oPrinters.Item(i), 3) <> "usb" then WshNetwork.RemovePrinterConnection oPrinters.Item(i+1), true, true else WScript.Echo "No network printers found" end if Next 'Connect to AD Set objSysInfo = CreateObject("ADSystemInfo") 'Get LDAP entry to current computer object. strComputerDN = objSysInfo.ComputerName Set objComputer = GetObject("LDAP://" & strComputerDN) strOU = GetFirstMatch("OU=(.*?),OU=", strComputerDN) Select Case (LCase(strOU)) 'For Each OU make a Case 'note that the OU Name is made to be all lower case case "room1" WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\" & printServer & DefaultColourPrinter WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\" & printServer & DefaultColourPrinter case "room2" WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\" & printServer & DefaultBWPrinter WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\" & printServer & DefaultColourPrinter WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\" & printServer & DefaultBWPrinter End Select First off it deletes all network printer connections from a machine (needed this to clean up from the old script) This helps if any kids happen to add any persistent connections (e.g. with a script of thier own). It then creates a connection to Active Directory and gets the computers AD String (Normally CN=COMPUTERNAME,OU=OU1,OU=OU2,DC=DOMAIN,DC=DOMAIN) This string is then passed through a regex function that returns the first OU for that computer, in my case this is where the OU for each room was. It then has a big case statement for each ou (you have to write each case) it would be possible to do away with the case statement and have it add a printer with the same name as the OU assuming that your printers where named like that I Have tested this on a couple of domains and it works as i expected it to
