Good morning. I'm wondering if anybody can help, or advise whether they are having the same problem. We currently run MS Office 2013 - which appears to be working fine, however printing from Excel is problematic. When the machine has multiple printers installed, Excel can only print to the default printer. When you try to select a different printer - it immediately reverts to the default. For some reason, it doesn't affect other Office apps such as Word or PowerPoint etc. I've read posts all over the internet - however non seem to have a solution. Any advice will be really appreciated. Cheers, Paul.

I've noticed recently that our Printer GPOs at our several sites have warnings upon first login as Windows cannot apply the default printer option. After doing some research all I can seem to find on this issue is the following Microsoft Article: shorturl.at/tUX12 Just wondering how anyone else has managed default printers?

I have a windows 2003 R2 SP2 server and our network has a mix of xp and windows 7. I am trying to use a script to set the default printer on computers based on the OU the computers are in. I have tried applying it as a startup script and as a login script - with no success. I can log into a computer and manually run the script, so I know it isn't an error in the script. Can anyone help me with what I am missing? I have also tried it with a copier named CopierC... in case it had something to do with the hyphens or the long name. I have used different variations of the script, but this is the current one: ' Set default printer Option Explicit Dim objPrinter Set objPrinter = CreateObject("WScript.Network") objPrinter.SetDefaultPrinter "\\library-server\HPLJ-P2035n-C103"

Hi all, we are halfway through upgrading our school systems to windows 10. Apart from a few ICT classrooms most of the student computers are now on the latest OS. However, we are having a problem setting the default printers via policy which is causing a hell of a mess since Adobe PDF is the first on the list and they don't think before pressing print. We used to deploy via pushprinterconnections.exe and set the default printer on startup using the vbscript below: Set WshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\server\printername" This seems to work except on those we have upgraded to Windows 10. I've been advised to try using a .bat, which threw up a few errors and didn't look optimistic. Google hasn't been much help in finding anything different to how we used to do it. Has anyone else come across problems of this nature?

Hello, Let's say I have 2 printers under Windows 7 x64. I have 2 scripts to set each of the 2 printers as default and I pinned shortcuts to those 2 scripts to the taskbar. They work fast. I've been meaning to add some dynamic icons for these shortcuts so that when I set a printer as default, its shortcut gets a colored icon and the other printer's shortcut gets b/w icon. Not many viable options to do this, but I found some code here on the forum and I adapted it to my situation. I made a .dll file with the 4 icons I need to use, because it seems that the code won't work with .ico. I will post the code below, but first let me tell you which my problems are: - the icon change in the folder where I have all files (the 2 .vbs, the 2 .lnk, icons.dll) happens in 15-20 seconds, which is a bit slow given the fact that the default printer change takes place in 1 second - this happens even if I refresh the folder (F5) repeatedly - the icon change doesn't happen at all for the icons in taskbar (I made shortcuts correctly, with target: C:\Windows\System32\wscript.exe "E:\Printers\Bro.lnk") It might be the code I use that is wrong and maybe you guys can help me make it better. Here it is: Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network") PrinterPath = "Brother DCP-T300" WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter PrinterPath Set objShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application") Set objFolder = objShell.NameSpace("E:\Printers") Set objFolderItem = objFolder.ParseName("Bro.lnk") Set objShortcut = objFolderItem.GetLink objShortcut.SetIconLocation "E:\Printers\icons.dll" ,0 objShortcut.Save Set objFolderItem = objFolder.ParseName("Bul.lnk") Set objShortcut = objFolderItem.GetLink objShortcut.SetIconLocation "E:\Printers\icons.dll" ,3 objShortcut.Save WScript.Quit 1 Please help me make this faster, or if not possible please at least tell me why. About the taskbar thing, I can live without it since it works for desktop shortcuts. Please don't say I'm too picky and that it takes 3 seconds to switch between printers via CPanel - I know. I might as well be using 5 printers on a tight schedule and need to switch between them pretty fast without having always to right click and set as default printer. Thank you in advance.
