atcoates Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Must have a few other companies beginning to panic at the size of the fine! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-48905907
localzuk Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Aye, the ICO has a nice new set of sharp teeth now it seems!
synaesthesia Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Might be a few sweaty palms at Capita today? Fairly sure they're used to it by now, they've had enough practice.

GrumbleDook Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 It is a notice of intent ... there will be representation on this and the final judgement will be more telling ... how realistic it is that they could have handled differently
PotNoodleTech Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 So when the IT guys probably asked the CEO for 1 million to secure everything up to the max, and were probably told no that's way too expensive........... well it probably aint seeming so expensive now is it!!
GrumbleDook Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 “But what did I do wrong?” Do you shower? “Yes, most days” Do you wash you clothes? “Yes, when they need it” Do you tie your shoe laces? “Yes, but tend to just pull my trainers on and off” Do you put petrol in your car? “Yes, when close to empty” Do you check and top up the oil? “When the warning light comes on” Do you replace worn tyres? “When I get told to at the MOT” Do you check there is no glass in front of your tyres before driving off? “No one would be stupid enough to put glass there!” Do you check you car is locked? “I press the button” Do you leave your wallet on your car seat over night? “That would be stupid” Have you ever bragged that you have lots of cool gadgets at home? “Yeah ... you should see my 89” screen...” Do you ever wake up in a blind panic because you can’t remember if you closed the patio doors? “Sometimes, but I hardly ever forget to closed them” Lock them? “Erm ... most of the time” So, you basically say that you do the minimum, wait until you are told to do things and often forget to take basic approaches to security. Now, tell me, why do you want a job as our Head of IT? 3
FN-GM Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 If I remember correctly didn't someone warn BA about the issue early on but they ignored it. It was only when they went public that it came to light.
Arthur Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 If I remember correctly didn't someone warn BA about the issue early on but they ignored it. It was only when they went public that it came to light. BA made changes to their website after a security researcher complained they were leaking booking details to a huge number of third-party advertisers without consent. The day after BA changed the JavaScript tracking code, they were hacked. Link: www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/199224-british-airways-hacked-380-000-bank-cards-compromised.html#post1701748 Well-known security researcher Mustafa Al-Bassam said earlier on Saturday that British Airways had changed the third-party JavaScript code it loads on its website as a result of a privacy complaint he had made. https://twitter.com/musalbas/status/1148145302328815617 https://twitter.com/musalbas/status/1038224625216512001
