  1. Have you configured AAM? http://iedaddy.com/2013/03/sharepoint-2010best-practices-for-alternate-access-mappings-aam/
  2. We use a can of air to clean this sensor, it's fixed the problem the handful of times we've had it.
  3. How about a vulnerable OS (eg 2003) logged on as a domain admin? In that scenario the infected machine wouldn't need to exploit an OS vulnerability on the 7/2008 target, as it would be accessing the admin$ share to propagate.
  4. You could try renaming the simsload.ini in the SIMS programfiles folder.
  5. Why not allow them to switch user from the locked screen, assuming you are running 7?
  6. I had a similar problem last week, where a user could only open a limited number of linked docs; it turned out to be caused by the user reaching their disk quota limit. From what I gather, the open button copies the doc from the DMS to the user's Sims folder in their mydocs to allow the user to edit it. If the problem is definitely computer specific, this probably doesn't apply.
  7. We started using the homework add-on to SLG for this, at the start of this academic year. I appreciate if you don't already use SLG, you're not going to implement it for this feature alone.
  8. That particular was an SLT initiative, so not much pushing required in our case.
  9. We also went with RBS: www.roombookingsystem.co.uk/ when we decided to free up IT rooms and have fewer (non-discrete ICT) lessons timetabled in them. We also limit staff to booking rooms no further than two weeks in the future, to limit block/repeated bookings with no clear purpose. RBS pulls our 2-week timetable with alternative curriculum and cover from SIMS each night. Service and support, on the whole, is excellent.
  10. I've used this: SPViewPermissionSetting (Powered by Laurent Cotton Aka Suchii - Bewise) It was fine on 2007, but requires a few tweaks to the SharePoint template files to make work on 2010.
  11. I'm sure I had a similar issue last month. There is a solution to this on SupportNet, ( which is still unavailable). From memory, I think it was just a case of reinstalling the FMS infrastructure on the affected computer. Edit: Have checked our helpdesk and it was resolved by running fmsapplicationsetup.exe, not the infrastructure setup. Supportnet article is kb90958.
  12. Have you checked the FMS Setups path in windows\Sims.ini on the computer affected?
  13. Thank you. I had previously run a quick search in the username field; when no results were returned I assumed that the user hadn't been created in SIMS, and just been assigned permission directly in SQL. Have now searched in the forename field, found user and marked inactive. Database now attaching without the warnings.
  14. Did you get a solution to this? I get a similar message whenever I try to attach our SIMS database, or dbupgrade tries to automatically restore the database after a failed upgrade. My message refers to an old local account on a previous SIMS db server, that was used for the Discover Group Transfer when Discover was first released. I can't find the user in the SIMS or Master db users/logins.
  15. We bought the upgrade when it was released and finally received the upgrade link mid-June. Although they only accept bank transfers, it is a UK bank account. The sketch application seems ok so far, but I'm still tweaking the paint installer to stop it crashing when a standard user launches it. Installers are MSI format this time. They do respond to email, although it may take them a day or two.
  16. If it were a loop that hadn't been disabled by STP, wouldn't you expect slightly different symptoms such as performance degradation across the entire LAN as opposed to the sporadic loss of DHCP lease info? Have any clients with static IPs ever been affected? I've seen similar issues when a dulicate DHCP server was introduced to the network in the form of an AIO TFTP/DHCP/DNS utility. If you haven't yet done so, it's worth having a look at event log on your DHCP server and perhaps sniffing for evidence of a duplicate DHCP server.
  17. Yes, sounds like you're right. PJL would be the last possible resort - the only time I had need to use it (with an LJ4100 connected to a print server over parallel) I couldn't get it to work. This document is pretty ancient, so may not even apply to modern laserjets. Furthermore, given that HP have removed this functionality from WJA and web access, I would assume HP have disabled it for PJL as well.
  18. If you're saying that you couldn't find where to restrict access to the CP from within WJA, try selecting the printer > Config tab > Security subsection > Control Panel Access.

  20. If the server is not a DC and the account you used is the domain admin, try using the local admin account to change ownership.
  21. I was thinking of the physical release station. I suspect you're right about the web release.
  22. I had to use the 2003/XP drivers to allow XP clients print through a 2008r2 server for this printer.
  23. If I've understood you correctly, it is possible to do this (from v8 at least). Setting the show-jobs-from-queues value in a properties file, will allow you to define the print queues to be displayed. You can create multiple properties files with corresponding shortcuts, or associate them with particular computer names: http://www.papercut.com/products/ng/manual/rs-conf.html
  24. Done, but q5+6 have more than one valid answer when the quantity =3 or 5.
  25. Assuming you want to keep the same AD database, Loopback processing in replace mode will prevent the C3 policies applying to vanilla desktops. Loopback processing of Group Policy
