Why not try and help? Regardless of what the situation should be (they should have those skills), they don't, so why not give it a crack. If you want any advice (I organise training delivery and logistics for living), then drop me a PM. I'm sure I can drop you over some bits and pieces that will help to sort out who needs what so you can plan what you need to do. The only issue with online/lab materials is that if somebody isn't IT confident to start with they will generally struggle. Good luck!

Thanks Steve The idea of the ANME survey bringing schools network teams together would allow both certified and non certified courses, depending on numbers, budgets etc. In the training market, individually purchased courses are always way more expensive than when you group together.

Cheapest way to run the type of training you are looking at, is to try and get a few local schools to group together and have an onsite. Might be something the ANME group could look in to? Lee

Have you asked local secondary/academies if they have one you could use to start with? The important bit is the product design which you don't need the printer for. I can see the long term benefit of having your own, if it will get used.

1. How much does it cost to print a model - I realise it will depend on the model but I'm struggling to find info on this......Not just the model size, complexity etc. but also the type of resin you use and the printer you end up with. 2. How do you organise support.....What exactly do you mean by this? you would probably need to speak to who you get it from. 3. What software do you use.....It really depends on what you are doing/printing. zbrush seems common with professional artists for organic, there are a few for geometric style models. There must be something out there a lot more basic for younger users. There is also usually some software for slicing up the 3D model, that you get charged for with the printers. 4. What areas of the curriculum do you link to......Not one I can answer, i'm answering this based on what a close friend of mine does for a living. 5. How did you go about introducing it/training......Find yourself a good freelance printer/Model maker/printer (I know a couple if your stuck). 6. Any health & safety considerations.....speak to the manufacture of the printer you go for before you put your hand in your pocket. There is a real art to not just producing a model/design but also in the slicing and printing of the object.

There are a few out there. ITIL and Prince are the two most commonly asked for on job specs.

There are a few vendor specific courses that that cover content from the above, but they are quite pricey. Is certification a big thing for you? For the same price you could get someone in for a couple of days to deliver some tailored training.

Not sure my post is very clear 9/10 time when you deal with someone lacking in skills in basic IT, this normally links in with a lack of confidence. If the only outcome of some initial training is to make that person comfortable to have a go at things in the workplace you are more than half way there. This is normally (unlike nearly all other types of training) better done at the place of work. Trust me on this I organise a lot of training. You are correct that someone not associated with the school is better placed to work with your colleague, but that individual really needs to know what they are doing or they will simply confuse your colleague further. At this point, aiming you colleague at books, online materials/online course will only get pushed back as unusable/not understood. Later on, this may be an option if you don't push it much now. When I say specifics, I'm talking passwords, the browser you use, the way any shared areas look, even letter heads and your document layouts need to be part of the process. They may well not even associate the skills learnt in IT at a different site, with those at yours. I worked in training a long time and have pretty much seen it all- People who don't know what to do when a mouse gets to the edge of a mouse mat, someone who thought there interactive whiteboard pen had run out of ink, high ranking directors who have no IT skills because they are so scared of being shown up in group training with their staff. With an experienced trainer, this initial stage should really only take a day (tops) and it should be very relaxed. The above is all "Ideal" so may well need to look at what's affordable. If want to pick my brains on the subject just drop me a PM.

You could get someone in to deliver something really tailored it would probably take the least amount of time and give you the best results. If you get deliver the training on what you have in place at school; logging on, where they save work, the products they will be using day in day out - will help build their confidence so that they can come in to the school and not feel overwhelmed. The prohibitive factor is going to be cost on this. Have you had a look at college courses? Alternatively do you have links with other schools who might be able to do you a favour?

If that's the case might be worth having a look at troubleshooting desktops, fundamentals to networking and some core 2012 Server Admin training. There are a group of schools in Cumbria looking at some Core training for their technical staff in the new school year. Might be worth seeing if that's of interest? Will be taking place just off the M6 (j38) at one of the schools.

What is the job role of your colleague who wants the training? Where does his/her current skill set fall? where are you looking to move this persons skills in to (technology wise)? There are a lot of training courses on the market, its more about knowing what the need is, so we can point you in the right direction.

I go for a Milk consistency, usually water. Sometimes I add in a flow enhancer, but more and more these days I don't bother. "Also go for vallejo paints" I will echo this part. Vallejo P3 and Reaper masters are all lovely paints.

lol.....we aren't very serious when we game. Most of the time there is just really bad banter.

lol, I run events, not sure why I do it but I do I built 15 tables and a load terrain.....I must be nuts. I use one of the training rooms from the technical training business I run to host gaming days. You will be able to get a better price than £75. Slayer gaming were offering this last week on pre order for £60. As for airbrush, over brush its not that simple a question. The best painters in the world produce painted miniatures using a brush, but you have to take in to account that they spend most of their lives painting models - take a look at Meg Maples @ arcane paintworks. I still paint with a brush and the one thing I will say is that you wont use a really fine brush as much as you think. What you need Is a brush with a longer set of bristles as its all about the load of paint that a paintbrush holds. Look at Windsor and newton series 7 and rosemary and co for all your brush needs. Winsor and newton are the best and rosemary and co are the best for the money. Airbrushing is expensive to get in to you need to drop £150 to £300 before you even get going. If you go cheap, you'll end up having to purchase again in 6 months time. It doesn't take much to really improve your painting, if I were you id find some local gaming groups and ask if anyone can help. There is always someone at a club who knows there way round painting models well. Airbrushing is quicker but not really easier its a different skill, but imo the best models in the world are hand painted at some point. If you live near Worcester and want a hand id happily help lol.
