  1. Hi Sorry for my lack of info. workgroup manager>computer groups>Preferences>login>options> "log user out after" was set to 45m, changed to 240 mins. That's where! Regards Tony
  2. Hi Richard I found this out just before seeing your message. It was in the "account" settings, log off after 45mins. Thanks Tony
  3. Hi guys thanks for the advice and ideas. Here is what I did last week. Set up the link aggregation on the network cards on the xserve, ether channelled the ethernet and fiber through to the target switch Cisco 3560G used LACP and hey presto we have a good clean run through to the xserve. This has sped up the switch and we have better data transfer from the core. all in all a success. Kind Regards Tony
  4. Good morning, On a mac network I work on, there is an issue where as all the Macs are shutting down after 45 mins. I can't for the life of me work out where it is coming from, I have checked power saving and in there we have a 45min shutdown, I change it but when the clients restart it reverts back to 45 mins. any ideas?! Tony
  5. good morning, I have a quick question about mac nic bonding for performance. I am trying to run a 2GB backbone from the xserve to a cisco 3560G switch, through the Cisco Core which is being setup as to bond/pair for performance. We are using 2x cat6 to core, from core fiber to patch and from target patch to 3560g from 2x fiber. anyone have any experience in bonding nics for performance on the xserve? regards Tony

  7. Hi I completed the Mac Snow 101 Desktop essentials last week, it was a 3 day course with an optional exam at the end. I found it quite tough but came away with a lot, including a proper certification, something I had yet to get for anything Microsoft based! great course! Tony
  8. this is a very highly achieving all girls school and the school know the risks, this room is only used by the media department. anyways, the issue is not whether or not stuff will get nicked, it is how the ruddy hell do I get a room full of iMacs working seems to be a known issue, trying all the normal stuff first like updating all the drivers etc. will update when I get somewhere, though I fear I will have to present the school with a bill for 1200 for wired apple mice and keyboards. Tony
  9. hey guys and girls I have an issue with a suite of 27 iMacs and the fact that they only come with wireless keyboards and mice. the simple solution here is to get wired keyboards and mice and this won't be too much of an issue but... Has anyone else here got a suite of macs that run on the wireless keyboards and mice and experience interference? some of the macs are not picking up their keyboards, some are not picking up their mice etc.. This seems as though it might be a big issue but not sure if there is something I can do about it?! Thank tony
  10. Hi guys is there a way of setting up a mac so that it doesn't require you to open an office file by using the "open file with" option. is there a way of setting "always associate this file type with Office 2008" type option? Thanks Tony
  11. Hey, please may I have an invite?
  12. Hey guys Please can someone help me? I am trying to set up remote access for the media tech so she can only get to the shutdown area of the remote access server. how I would like it to work out is... she logs onto the server, remote session, and then shuts down the machines she needs to. I also have set up the shut down schedule for later, but she wants to be able to do it earlier if need be! I have got as far as setting up a user, but don't know how to set the permissions so low as to only let her shut down the machines. any ideas Tony
  13. Hi guys thanks for getting back to me, a little more info the server has 2 quad cores, 1.8Ghz, 32gb RAM, server 2003 64bit, 5 300gb sscsi drives (way too much hehe) I don't think it is the server, I am leaning towards switching issues now after thinking about it today, I am going to check the speed of the switches. the TCs are HPs, not sure of the model. I will have another look again tomorrow. thanks again guys Tony
  14. Good afternoon, I have a school with a network of 29 TCs running to a terminal server. from day one it has not worked, I have come in very late to look into it. I understand there is an issue with running IE over a thin client setup as it uses up so many resources. how tricky is it to implement Citrix and are there freeware versions? any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tony
  15. Morning! does anyone here employ shutdown scripts for their mac networks? if so, how? Thanks tony
  16. I should have asked... do you work for the school or for a company that supports the school:?
  17. When I started at my school I had over 70 domain admins on the system, from the head right down to some students. The fuss it kicked up and the problems with software running when we cut it down to 2 was fantastic. had a few very upset people and some REALLY upset people. The person who is upset can moan all he wants there is NO WAY he will get anywhere.
  18. I have 7 on a fairly high spec laptop and it runs faster than it did on Vista business or xp. everything opens quicker!

  22. Morning guys, We are currently getting our orders for IWBs throughout the schoo. We are keeping a number of Active boards but the majority of our boards will be SMART. We have some of the old voting pads for Prometien and I don't really like them, pain to setup ect and never really used. does anyone have any experience in using other types of voting pads like turning point etc. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Tony
  23. Yesterday I downloaded Windows 7 Ultimate RC I installed it on my Sony Vaio VGN-Z21WN/B, 4gb RAM, 2.53 processor etc etc. installed super quick off the iso and so far seems to run far quicker than Vista business that was on it. This morning with the help of an external dvd we have installed it onto a Acer Aspire one with Atom 1.6 with 1gb RAM and 150ish GB hd. installed very quick and is now operating really well. Nothing out of the normal here, just wanted to add in the lower spec models taking it really well. that is all.
