Hi all We have been running Windows 7 Enterprise and Office 2010 for a few months and all has been good except today when the DT suite reported that machine were hanging when saving files or indeed sitting there with a dialog box for upto 30 mins. The applications were reporting Not Responding - the strangest thing is if you choose Save As and call the file something else it saves fine! There are no storage issues etc, and this happened in Office 2010 and then a CAD package that we used. If anyone has any ideas I would be really glad to hear from you... Thanks

Hi everyone Does anyone know of a way to disable the network icon via GPO, which appears when you open the 'Computer' icon windows on Windows 7? We are testing on our network and its just about the last loophole as it shows a complete browse list! Have looked through GPMC until my eyes spin and can't see anything that relates to it - not saying its not there of course. Thanks in advance. Kevin

Hi Everyone - further to my last post, I am still not having success with Windows 7 Start Menu Redirection ! on Windows 7 Professional clients. We run Windows 2008 r2 Servers abeilt running Windows 2003 functional level, we have majority of Windows XP clients all working fine. Have recently been testing Windows 7 for a proposed rollout this August. Our shared Start Menu is \\server\start$ the GPO that deals with it redirects the desktop etc and student home folder. However on Windows 7 we still get [empty] on the programs menu. If I check the event viewer on the machine I get no errors see attachment I have got start menu redirection working on a seperate server with Windows 7 but within school it having none of it. If anyone has got any further thoughts or pointers I would be very grateful ! Many thanks Kevin

no nothing has changed it has all been fine up until this morning! and I can't find any reference to it anywhere....
-
Have removed the 'profile' path from the user account and it still gets the multiple windows opening
-
Yes students use mandatory roaming profiles - the only change has been testing some windows 7 pc's to see if they would access the redirected start menu. We then created an OU for one win7 machine to logon but have removed it. Yes it does happen to every PC. Kevin

The Students have an OU which controls startmenu redirection- and this morning when a student logs on it opens each branch of the start menu in a seperate explorer window so there effectivly 20 or so open windows on the students desktop!

Hi - our Windows Start Menu redirection suddenly seems to appear as 'open windows on the desktop' as well as in the Start Menu everytime a student logs on. Our redirection policy has everyone's folder redirected same location \\serverxx\mprofile$\start menu Grant Exclusive rights to Start Menu - Disabled Move contents of Start Menu to the new location - Disabled Also apply redirection policy to provious windows - Enabled Policy removal behaviour - restore contents Many thanks in advance :-)

Hi everyone, Am looking to test some Windows 7 machines on our network, we have windows 2008 r2 domain controllers and windows xp clients. The windows xp clients all point to a shared startmenu and everything works well. We would like to share the same startmenu for Windows 7 clients . Can anyone help me with the best practise for my GPO's to make this work, as I tried creating a new GPO and redirecting the starmenu but it comes up as 'empty' when you click on All Programs on Windows 7. Any help in making this work will be well received. Thanks Kevin

Hi I have a strange GPO problem which I hope someone might throw some light on for me! At the moment we use GPO to deliver restrictions to student desktops, now I went to change the GPO that deals with the IE URLS to change the hompage - this works for staff but stays on old value for students. I have use the GP Results Wizard and it points to our Default Domain Policy when you run it as some users it shows the new page and if you run as another student it tells you the policy is applied in the correct order but shows the old value ie the old Homepage. If anyone can throw any light on it I would be most grateful! Thanks

Thanks after reading the doc I can now cure the problem by flushing DNS cache on client! but after a day machines start dropping again ! Ivor

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me, our GPO has been working fine on the school network, but a couple of days ago we started getting Error 1058 /1030 stating some (not all workstations) cannot access the GPT.ini file and that Group Policy was aborted. The GPT.ini is available on all replicated boxes and i have run through the technet stuff to no avail. Has anyone else had problems with GPO suddenly cutting out on some workstations? Any help greatfully received Ivor

Hi I have just installed WSUS 3.0 on our Windows 2003 box, and the install has gone well, the server is available functioning and syncing quite happily with Microsoft Update. I have followed the deployment instructions by linking a new GPO object to the domain and have checked that the clients are receiving the correct GPO when logging on. If I check the local registry it tells me that the clients are pointed to our WSUS server to receive updates. However I cannot see any client computers in the WSUS computer group on the server, so it reports its got nothing to push the updates to. Thanks in advance Kevin

Hi all I wondered if anyone can help with the fact I have got to move an installation of Phoenix Gold from our old server (Server1) to our new server (Server2) I have no problems with installing the clients icon install etc but just wondered if anyone has gone through it already ! Many thanks in advance Kevin

thanks guys for your comments, on this machine I have installed Windows XP and then created a domain account, everything is fine. Then use the share \\server\rollnt$ and do a manual install and at the end after the reboot I get the normal winsuite logon screen. Then when I log on any user even ALT W it gives me a message box saying..... ' Winsuite has to reboot to install critical updates' , which it does and then returns back to the winsuite logon screen again after booting up. its a bit of a weird one.....

Hi everyone can anyone help I have a problem thats buggin me and even the guys at NDItech. I have one Dell optiplex gx620 machine that had a new hard disk recently - i have reimaged the drive with the Dell Windows XP disk. When I install Winsuite that goes fine - when I logon it tells me that Winsuite has to reboot after installing important updates and it just gets stuck in a loop. NDI have kindly sent me various updates which have not worked and I wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar. many thanks in advance! Kevin
